A patron wants the title of a book with this plot:

Two boys are trying to get through the summer without having to get stitches.
If one of them gets stitiches, he has to kiss a fat girl. [Trying hard not
to comment, here.] Chapter book for middle grades. Have checked standard
sources. Please reply directly to me.

Thanks!

Would anyone have a complete list of the "old" Nancy Drew mysteries, or know
where I could find such a thing? There are lists on the back of the old
hardcovers, but I don't know that they are complete. Thank you in advance.

I was asked by my director to work on this, and I was directed to the

a link to the Idaho State Library's "Checklist for Requesting

discounts. Excellent resource

Telecommunications Act of 1996

I hope this is of some help--Ours is a small library (one building);
however, our community has doubled in size in the last ten years. We
are hoping to build a branch in the next few years. These plans cited
are for larger library systems. Also, it was difficult to develop our plan in
light of the hugh costs involved and the rapidly changing technologies.

I might quote something I found searching the PUBLIB archives:

"The two technology plans stored on our web server are taking over a
hundred hits a day. This, I'm sure, is directly related tot he FCC's recently
annound plans for ....requirements...library has a technoloby plan.

...Folks, you can't do a good technoloby plan in one month. A good
technoloby plan should involve your community, and shoul cover a whole
range of often difficult issues."

from Jerry Kuntz, Ramapo Catskill Library System, jkuntz@rcls.org

We do not have a web server, but our modest plan is almost finished if
you would like a fax copy, I think I could do that.

Bravo Faith! I too loved the Newbery pick and all the nominees. What a
year! And a great committee! I found the A View From Saturday very
engaging - I would love to write like Elaine - Hands Down. I recommend
it to many of my readers and they have loved it. Booktalking has many
options for many audiences. Example from one colleague I work with:
What would you do if you walked into a classroom and saw CRIPPLE
on the chalkboard and a student holding an eraser. The word PARAPLEGIC
had been erased and you had to teach the class....
How about booktalking the invitation to the tea party with props.
What a wonderful image.
For middle schoolers - Can those 6th graders really beat all the
7th and 8th graders to be academic champs. How did they get the name
The Souls.
This is also a great family read-a-loud. I read it cover to cover
and read it again.
For those who didn't connect I highly recommend a second look.
I too rarely respond, and have had other ideas about who should be
rewarded/awarded -- Rosemary Wells!! But I cannot begrudge Ms. Konigsburg
this one. It is a work of art and we are loving it and all the honor
winners as well. They are flying off the shelves!!

A patron has asked us if we can find a chapter book she remembers (published
1978 or earlier) about a man who finds some crane eggs. Patron thinks three
of the eggs hatch, and the man raises them as pets. One of the cranes is
named Mo. Ring any bells? Thanks to anyone who can help. Reply to Patt

I am trying to recollect a book from childhood (read about twenty years
ago). The main character was a young girl named Veronica and she had a
small dog as a companion. The story begins with her falling asleep in her
bed and when she wakes up the posts of the bed have become limbs in a
tree. The rest of the book deals with her and her dog trying to get home
again. I think that there might have been a tree chasing her at one
point. Hopefully, these few snippets might sound familiar to someone and
if so, I would love to hear from you. Thank You.

Hello PUBYACER's!

I need your help with a scary story. I have a patron who is looking
for a story about a woman (ghost?) who wears a ribbon around her
neck. When the ribbon is removed, her head falls off. The
frustrating part is that I know the story, but can't remember the
title. We tried looking on our PAC, browsing through all of our
scary story collections, looking it up in books on folklore, and even
tried searching the internet. We had no luck using keywords of
ribbon, neck, head. It's probably as plain as the nose on my face,
but I just can't find it. If you know the story, and where it can
be found, please email me directly at azanarini@slco.lib.ut.us.
Thanks in advance!

the better.... Anyone interested in sharing ideas for the flannelboard,
please E Mail me at:
