I've bought books from Thomas Nelson before (in a former positions). I can't say that my purchases were based on reviews, but on patron demand. I believe Thomas Nelson
has been around
for a long time. Quality of the ficiton seems to be on a parr with other Christian
fiction publishers. I don't read heavily in that area, but the books seem to be
popular among Christian Fiction fans

Subject: mystery ideas?

Believe it or not I am already looking to summer of 1998 and am leaning
toward a mystery theme. Does anyone have any ideas that worked for them?
One thing I'm looking for in particular is something called a mystery meal.
The basic idea is that you choose certain items from a menu, but they are
described in different ways. A fork might be a pitchfork, bread might be
described as the staff of life, etc. Any help or ideas would be greatly
appreciated.

ubject: stumper-whales, dolphins

I have a patron who is looking for exciting books of fiction for young
teens, and specificly an 11 year-old, on sailing and whale and dolphin
watching. She took a trip like this and enjoyed herself so much she thinks
the feelings she got from watching these sea creatures swim up close and
interact with people should be shared with children. I found some
non-fiction books on Whale watching, etc for her but they were not quite
what she wanted. She seemed to want Fiction that would excite the children.
She was looking to find something for this week (9/22) but said she is
always interested in the subject so anytime I come up with some titles she
would be happy. TIA-Send ideas to: Karen

Mary--We have had a huge increase in Christian fiction reading in our
area--primarily because of our large Amish settlements but also from our
regular patrons. We purchase from Bethany, Harvest House, Nelson, and
several others. While I personally think of Nelson as publishing only
Bibles ,they also publish many other good materials. Baker and Taylor
sends out a quarterly list of upcoming titles. There is also a new
publication that is strictly reviews of Christian literature. I have the
magazine at home and will be happy to get the title for you. Also
Library journal reviews some Christian literature quarterly. If your
looking for authors, the ones who are "hot" here are Lori Wick, Frank
Peretti, Janette Oke, Morris (the father and children write), and Terri
Blackstock (mysteries). For children the Danae Dobson books, Tedrow's
take off on the "Little House" series, and Janette Oke books are well
liked.
If interested in the Christian literature review publication let
me know.

Subject: Thanks for the video help!

Someone had asked me to post the responses I received regarding library-
use videos for children. I received two responses--thanks goes to Andrea
Tarr and Sarah Later.

Andrea suggested "Kids are Patrons, Too." It turns out that we do own this,
but my superviser hadn't watched it, thinking it was for those serving
children in the library. Andrea says it's kind of corny, but useful, too.

Sarah suggested "Find It All at the Library!" which is put out by ALA. We
haven't been able to track this down in our professional collection, but be
sure we'll take a look at it!

Hope this helps all who are out there floating in the same boat! And
THANKS!!! to those who took the time to help out!

This message is cross-posted to several lists. Please pardon for the

I was requested to put my presentation on "Web-interfaced OPAC: Design and

Your comments on this paper are very welcome. I am especially interested in

Please feel free to drop me some lines after you read the presentation.

Moreover, I have a new search engine on my Web site "Internet Library for
