I have a parent whose son is performing in a play next week and she is
"looking for a copy of the story" which I take to mean the story the
play
is based on. (She had her secretary call so I didn't talk directly to the
mother.) It's called "The Magic Apple" by Glenn Hughes; we have a
couple
of old books on theatre history by him but that's all. Anyone know
anything about this one?
Thanks!

Subject: Stumper-Children's Book
Hi!
A patron came in today looking for a book she read to her children 20
odd years ago which she thought was called The Little Robin That
Couldn't Fly. I looked for it in books in print, books out of print,
amazon, our own library system, the library of congress etc. and have
had no luck. I figure she may have the name wrong. Does anyone
remember a book with a title like this.
Thanks for any help.

We have a patron here at FCPL who is looking for a picture book with a
chicken named Fenimore B. (or P.) Buttercrunch. Apparently the chicken
wanted some jam and while getting it has hurt his foot. Therefore he
must wear a lumpy bandage on it. The patron remembers the line "I will
not go to market today..." from the book. She is quite sure that Robert
Quackenbush is the illustrator and believes the book is about 15 years old.
Several staff people have looked for this book with no luck. We've
searched all the standard sources including looking through all of our
Quackenbush books.
Thanks to all who may be able to help us solve this puzzle!

Thanks to all who reminded me of the series about Harry, the cat, by
Mary Chalmers. I knew would cringe when I received the answer. Why
didn't I think of it? Especially since I have just been reading Dear
Genius: The Letters of Ursula Nordstrom, and, of course, it contains
letters to Mary Chalmers. By the way, anyone interested in the history
of contemporary American children's literature, especially picture
books, will enjoy this collection of letters edited by Leonard S.

Can anyone remember a fiction book about a girl whose neighbors are
four brothers named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? I think the
brothers had a mother they called "the professor."
Also, I read a book twenty years ago about a little boy who lived in a
future where everyone had numbers instead of names. His number was so
long that everyone forgot it and he always ended up being picked last
for everything (in art class, he always got stuck with the brown
paint). He was called "Zero" for short. When he took a real name so
that people would remember him, everyone else took the same name.
I have checked for these on OCLC and MX Bookfinder. Thanks for your
help!
