Subject: Fenimore stumper solved

Thanks to all who responded to my stumper about Fenimore B. Buttercrunch,
a chicken with a hurt foot. The book is "I Will Not Go to
Market Today" by Harry Allard and illustrated by James Marshall.
I called our patron, and she was delighted to get the answer. Though we
no longer own the book, she'll probably ILL it if she can't find a copy
to purchase.

"She'll always be high on nerves and low on animal emotion. She'll always
breathe thin air and smell snow. She'd have made a perfect nun. The
religious dream, with its narrowness, is stylized emotions and its grim
purity, would have been a perfect release for her. As it is, she will
probably turn out to be one of those acid-faced virgins that sit behind
little desks in public libraries and stamp dates in books."(Raymond

people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of

Subject: Trying to find an book in the form of an AIDS diary

I have a student who is trying to find a book a teacher has told him
about.
It is a journal written by a woman with AIDS.
The author is from the New York City area, Yonkers or Peekskill, the
student thinks.
The woman wrote the book as a day to day recap of her feelings and
emotions.
Does anyone know of where I would be able to find this book or by any
chance has
anyone read this book?

Hi to all on Pubyac,

Today a patron of my library requested a book
she read as a child, about forty years ago. The
plot involves a boy who bought a lollypop and buried it in his yard.
It grew large enough to become the sign outside the local
drugstore. Anyone who has information on this book can
respond directly to me at:

pgiese@aol.com.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Subject: stumper

I recently watched a video purportedly of Marty Stouffer's youth and his
start as a wildlife photographer. The video reminded me of a book from the
1970s that I am unable to locate. It was about two teenage boys who
planned a camping vacation in their car. A younger brother talked them
into taking him, after he proved that he could cook. Of course, since he's
the main character, he saves the trip. I remember that they used poison
sumac (or ivy) sticks for cooking and had the poison blisters inside their
mouths.

The plot is: A mouse is told to come straight home from school but
instead he goes to play and when he does come home, his house is locked
up and his family has moved away. Thus, he goes on an adventure to find
his family.

Sound familiar?
Thanks!

WOW, you gentlemen and ladies are the BEST!

I'll have to look at the book to be sure, but the general consensus was
that it was "The Dangerous Game" 1977 by Milton Dank
There is also a sequel called "Games End" published in 1979.

I was able to locate the title in a neighboring county...and if its the
book I want, I know where I can obtain a copy to buy (thru the net).

Thanks again to everyone who responded!!
