A teacher told a patron of a good shoe tying book and so I ordered
it from INGRAMS ($9.95) (ISBN 0812065530) it is called Red Lace,
Yellow Lace by Mike Casey. It is a spiral bound board book type with
a longer cardboard picture of a shoe with an attached shoe lace
half yellow and half red. We processed it normally but left it in
the plastic case it came packaged in. So far so good.

Pubyackers,
I am searching for a few items that I think should exist but I am not
having any luck finding them in catalogs. The first is a globe larger than
12" in diameter that is not a)on a wooden stand or b)"antique
looking"
(parchment colored oceans, that sort of thing). The second is a small
table with a chess board printed directly on the table top. If anyone has
any clue as to where I might find either of these I will be eternally
grateful. TIA,

The website is wonderful--it includes information on the books, the author,
the future books to be published, recipes for some of that wonderful food--all

Subject: Archives & quest
I have just tried to access the Pubyac archives, and got one of
those, "can't find it" kind of errors.
A few weeks ago, during the heat of the debate on
whom-do-we-charge-fines-to-and-how, one person mentioned that their local
library gives fine exemption to members of their Friends of the Library
organization.
I find this idea intriguing, and wondered how it was accomplished.
Do the Friends have a contract with the board? How is the auditor appeased
for this action? Is it part of the policies and procedures manual?
If you have saved the original post, or are the original poster,
please contact me off-list. My director is interested, but we aren't sure
how to go about it and how much revenue-drop the library would suffer.
Thanks!

Subject: Book Stumper
9-1-98
Greetings,
I really enjoy reading this list and have gained some wonderful ideas.
However, here's another query for help from the collective minds.
A young mother came in today looking for a book from her childhood--late
60's or early 70's. The book was possibly called The Cookie Tree or The
Golden Cookie Tree. She remembers that the front of the book had a
beautiful large tree and a boy standing below it. The tree actually
produced cookies and either the leaves or the cookies were golden. She was
fascinated by this tree that grew cookies and would like to share the story
with her children.
I have looked in our collection, A to Zoo, BIP, What Do Children Read
Next?, World Catalog through First Search online, the library collections
throughout our county with no luck. A Sesame St. story about Cookie
Monster & the cookie tree keeps popping up but that's not what the patron
remembers.
Any leads would be appreciated so that we may try to ILL the book for her.
Thank you very much. You may reply directly to my address below.

Subject: stumper - inventor and maid
Does this sound familiar to anyone out there?
A patron is looking for an elaborately illustrated picture book about an
inventor whose small inventions (broom, appliances) turn against him.
His maid agrees to set right the magic if the inventor will marry her.
Patron remembers the title as being fairly long. The name of the
character may be in the title, and the name possibly begins with a
"Ph"
It's not Hoover's Bride.
This was passed on to me by another Youth Services staff member who does
not subscribe to PUBYAC, so I'm getting all this information secondhand.
I hope it's clear enough...

Thanks for all of your help in the past, and I need help again please. I
have a patron looking for a series of books she read as a child (she seems

read them) about a group of about 5 or 6 children in the UK having fantasy
adventures, along the lines of the C.S. Lewis books. One the the girl's
names was Lydia and Lydia was in one of the titles. Another one of the
titles has the word 'thyme' in it. The author E.E. Nesbit was mentioned in

titles. Could any one out there help me please.
