Can't believe that at least 3 people didn't push the ne plus ultra of
all fair stories, CORGIVILLE FAIR by Tasha Tudor; it's more fun than a
barrel of small simians, and begs to be read aloud to a couchfull of 2nd

Tasha , Barbara Cooney, Glen Rounds and Wm. Steig are all

decades now in defiance of all the known laws of geriatrics. What

Subject: Two Stumpers
Dear PUBYACers,
The time has come for me to pick the collective brain. I have two
short stories I want to inquire about and I am the inquiree. These were
short stories that I read in middle school, however, the could be from adult
collections.
The first is a Ray Bradbury tale about a couple who is on the beach
and something female -- a siren perhaps -- is luring the husband into the sea.
I believe the story is told from the siren's point of view.
The second is about a young woman/teenager who is riding home from
her sister's funeral and is reviewing the sister's life. She (the sister) spent
a lot
of her life defending Hitler -- in an essay for school is one thing I remember.
The
woman comes to a horrifying realization that her sister was the reincarnation of
Hitler himself. But she is wrong. The last line of the story is written
something like:
"From all four corners of her newly dug grave,
Eva Braun laughed."
Any inkilings would about these stories would be appreciated!
TIA,
Amy Long

hi :) i have another stumper to boggle the collective pubyac mind. i
had a patron in late sunday afternoon seeking a book to help her daughter
choose an indian name for her indian princesses initiation. we scanned
through our fairly large collection of native american history titles,
but she was specifically seeking a book dealing directly with personal
names used by native americans, perhaps with a listing of common names.
we were stumped and he mother and daughter left displeased. help!

A patron is trying to track down stories he heard from his dad in the 40s.
He doesn't think his dad made them up.
Here's the patron's decsription:
Young Wild West and his golden-haired sweetheart Loretta,
Cheyenne Charlie and his flaming-haired wife Ann,
Jim Young? and his raven-haired love Wanda?, plus their two Chinese
cooks travel the Old West helping those in need and punishing those
who 'done 'em wrong'.
If this scenario is familiar, please let me know at dileod@clpgh.org.
Thanks in advance,
Dallas

Subject: Bed stories stumper
Hello pubyaccers!
I have a patron looking for a book (s) for her child about learning to
sleep in her own bed. I have found one by Ziefert called I WANT TO SLEEP
IN YOUR BED, but was unable to find anymore. It was generically listed
under "bedtime" and "sleep" which is a huge topic. I'm just
hoping that
someone out there knows of some other books.
Thanks so much -

Thank you so much! The three-night version of Cinderella is apparently in
Grimm's, according to Pat Vasilik and seconded by Marijo Kist. All of our
copies are checked out!
Jen Ivanston also knows of another German version with the title
"Aschenputtel" without the fairy godmother. This is in the Cinderella
title of the Oryx Multicultural Folktale series which compiles several
versions of a fairy tale into one book.
Susan Hill suggested "Princess Furball".
Vicky Smith said to try "Cap O'Rushes". The Storyteller's Sourcebook
lists the following sources:
Favorite Fairy Tales Told in England, by Virginia Haviland
English Folk and Fairy Tales, by Joseph Jacobs
Clever Gretchen and Other Forgotten Folktales, by Alison Lurie
Womenfolk and Fairy Tales, by Rosemary Minard
The Fairy Ring, by Kate Douglas Wiggin
Fairy Tales from the British Isles, by Amabel Williams-Ellis
Thanks again!
