Subject: CALIFORNIA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL CONFERENCE - TRADING POST
THE TRADING POST NEEDS YOU!!
The Trading Post, a perennial favorite of Children's, Young Adult
and public service librarians, needs your participation for a
successful program at this year's CLA conference in Oakland.
Here is your chance to share ideas, showcase successful programs,
or display brochures, flyers or bookmarks from your library.
Traditionally, materials displayed have been of interest, but not
limited to, Children's and Young Adult Services library staff.
If you or your system would like to participate in the Trading Post,
please contact Jane Dyer Cook, Stockton-San Joaquin County Public
Library, by November 1. Inculde the size of your exhibit and any
special needs or requests. Electrical outlets and wall space are
scarce in the Trading Post area, so they will be available on a first
come-first serve basis. Bring approximately 100 copies of flyers
for handouts. The Trading Post is scheduled for Saturday, November
14 from 2:30-3:30.
Responses should be e-mailed, phoned, faxed or mailed by November 1 to:
Jane Dyer Cook, Children's Services Resource Librarian,
Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library, 605 N. El Dorado St.,
Stockton, CA 95202. 209.937.8312 (phone), 209.937.8683 (fax),
cookj04@stockton.lib.ca.us (e-mail).
Thank you.

Patron is looking for a book she recalls from the 1950's about a family
living in Hawaii that had a sugar-cane farm (or a cattle ranch...she
wasn't quite sure) and featured a girl protagonist. Any help would be
much appreciated. Thank you.

We have a patron who read a book 40 or 50 years ago (when he was a young

and moved the family into it. We have checked standard sources. Any ideas?

Greetings!
I am looking for a story I did several years ago called "The Chocolate
Chip Ghost". It is a flannel story which came from a collection of some
sort, but I can't remember where I had found it. I am at a different
library now, so I can't go back through the notes of what we did at that
particular storytime. Does anyone know this story and where I can find
it again?
Please e-mail me directly. A million thanks!

My patron remembers a book she read as a child (I would say 50-
60 years ago) about a little girl who looks at the windows of a
neighboring house as the sun shines on them making them
"golden." The girl explores that house, then another, and another
until she finds that she's travelled around the world and that her
own house is best. Any ideas? I really don't even know where to
begin on this one.

Here is today's stumper: a patron asked about a book about an
eleven year old boy. His parents give him money before he goes
on a camp trip. He uses some of the money to buy $5.00
worth of rocks, which he sells. With the profits, he buys other
things to sell. Eventually he uses his huge profits to open
a Hollywood disco in an illegal warehouse. The police come to
arrest the boy but he's too young to be arrested.

Subject: Lion Tamer Who Fears Lions
Dear PUBYACers,
Our patron is looking for a children's picture book about a lion tamer who
is afraid of lions and the lions are afraid of him. Together the lions and
the tamer get over their fear. The patron believes it was published in the
1950s or 1960s.
We know it is not The Happy Lion by Fatio, Leonard the Lion by Bishop, or
Andy and the Lion by Daugherty.
If you can name that book or give us any clues, we would appreciate that.
Please e-mail me directly at tinman@jcls.org.
