Hi all,
A computer teacher friend of mine is looking for biographical info on
John Bellairs (I tried the Compleat Bellairs - not helpful); Johanna Hurwitz
and Theodore Taylor. I have tried many sites with no luck. Any help you can
give? I already sent her to check Junior Books of Authors at her school
library. I don't think they have Something about the Author. Thanks in advance
TIA.

Subject: Workshop in Washington State

Attention Pacific Northwest Pubyaccers!

The Children and Young Adult Services (CAYAS) interest group of the
Washington State Library Association presents a spring workshop featuring
Judy Sierra.

Judy Sierra is a former children's librarian with a Ph.D. in Folklore from
UCLA. She is an award winning author of many books, two of which are: The
Flannel Storytelling Book and Antarctic Antics: A Book of Penguin Poems. As
a librarian she has worked with diverse ethnic and immigrant communities
and has taught courses in storytelling and children's literature.

For our CAYAS workshop Judy will tell her ten favorite flannel board
folktales and demonstrate how to extend the pleasure of the tales by having
children act them out with easy-to-make puppets and props. There will be
opportunities for everyone to participate and to make a flannel board
figure. Judy will also discuss how she finds and adapts folktales, and how
to locate multicultural programming resources in books and in the
community. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to ask questions
and share ideas about folklore, ethnic traditions, and presenting programs
for culturally diverse audiences.

When: Friday, March 12, 1999, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm (Bring a sack lunch or eat
at one of the many nearby restaurants - a list
will be provided upon registration)

Where: Seattle Public Library: 1000 4th Avenue, Main Auditorium

Cost: $ 55 for WLA Members, $ 70 for non-members
(Includes $2.00 ADA surcharge)

Registration Deadline is February 26, 1999, and preregistration is required

Subject: Stumper

Hi everyone,

I have a stumper from a patron that I am hoping someone will know. She has a
piece of a book from her childhood but the title does not appear. Both she and
I believe that it may be a golden book. This is the text of the book that she
has:
Blue flowers, pink flowers,
I pick my happy gay flowers.
Good morning, Grass!
Tickly, prickly,
I'm glad your're green, Grass.
Hello, Sky!
New Sky, blue Sky,
Way up high Sky.
Hippety, hoppity, slipper Frog.
Stop, Frog!
PLOP!
Hello, Water!
Ripply, trickly, splashy Water.
SQUISH!
Soft Kitty, gray Kitty,
I'm glad you are my Kitty.
Green tree, brown tree,
I climb my big and round tree.
She also remembers some of the other text as:
One shoe, two shoe,
I put on my new shoes.

If anyone knows the title. Please email me at lawlerb@clpgh.org
Thank you so much for your help.
Barb

Here is what the patron remembers about the book;
It's Latin or Spanish with possibly a woman's name in the title
It is about a very large woman (a giantess) who lives in a tree.
A man falls in love with her and sends little notes to her in the tree.
Any Ideas? Thanks
