Hi there! The movie The Witches from the Roald Dahl book was made in 1990 and
stars Angelica Houston. I saw it a long time ago, (from what I remember she
turns the little boy into a mouse, I think). It is listed in the Internet
Movie Database, www.imdb.com. Hope this helps!

I have a patron who remembers reading a book in the 3rd grade (probably
about 20-25 years ago) about a character named Petunia Pottapetal. She may
have been a flower or a little girl and it was probably a picture book. If
this rings a bell with anyone please e-mail me directly. Thanks in advance.

Hi-
Has anyone read the series called The Changes by Peter Dickinson or at least
one of the books in that series
* The Devil's Children
* Heartsease
or
* The Weathermonger
Would you classify it as juvenile or ya?
I've looked in some reference books but I wanted to get someone's suggestion
too. Please reply directly to me.
Thanks

Thanks to all who answered my stumper about the boy who gets snowed in. The
patron is sure it is Mike's House. He is snowed in in the library, which he
calls Mike's House because he finds the book Mike Mulligan's Steam Shovel there!
You guys are great!

Hello - A patron is looking for a picture book she read in the 70's in
which a young boy goes into a costume shop and tries on a knight's
costume. When he comes out of the dressing room, he is in the time of
knights. The costume store owner shows up to help him find the door
back. She says the illustrations are simple and bright. Ring any bells?

Subject: Biographies of people with a handicap
Hello All;
Help!
Upper Elementary and Middle School Teachers in our area are asking
students to read a biography of a person who has over come a handicap. The
handicap may be either physical or emotional. The biography may not be of
a sports figure. The collective brains in our library have come up with
the following personalities:
Helen Keller, Betty Ford, Beethoven, FD Roosevelt, Ronnie Milsap,
Christopher Reeves, Stevie Wonder, Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great,
Anne Sullivan, Nenette Fabray.
Can any of you wonderful people think of other personalities that might fit
the bill? We have tried the Internet, Amazon, and Barnes and Nobel.
Thanks for your help.

Subject: THE WITCHES MOVIE
Peggy,
I'll share my thought after taking my kids when they were that age
and the thoughts of many patrons and parents re:the movie of "The
Witches". It was quite scary and in poor taste in many parts with
melting skin etc., and other factors that are better read in a book
but perhaps too vivid when they showed them in movie format for many
of the young ones who would go.

The Witches, as I remember was very true to the book, starred Angelica
Huston for one. For the most information, since I am not sure what you are
looking for look at www.imdb.com (the Internet Movie Database) Really, if
anything is known about a movie it is in this database - it is unbeatable.

Nitter Natter Gnu Stumper
I have a patron who is looking for a children's book that she read approximately
15 years ago. She remembers that
the forest animals all said different things. The line that she remembers most
vividly is '"Nitter, Natter," said the
gnu.'
Please respond to me (SimmonsS@boulder.lib.co.us) and I'll post the correct
answer later (hopefully!).
Thank you!
