Home, home, let's go home, our songs and stories have been fun, but
home, home, let's go home we're finished with the final one ... (this
started out being an old country/northern song for hard partyers the
chorus of which began "Home, home, why go home? We're all having lots
of fun...) OR, If you're leaving and you know it wave goodbye...

Subject: stumper solved -- merry go round poem

The poem appears to be Merry-Go-Round by Langston Hughes. Don't know why
it didn't come up in the indexes, as it seems pretty famous. The patron is
thrilled -- she remembers it from her childhood and is happy to have it
to share with her children.

Thanks to those of you who responded!

Subject: stumper-dog becomes butler

We have a patron looking for a picture book about a dog who is
taken in by a family. He comes to their house with a trunk of
belongings, wears an apron, acts as the families butler, drives
parents crazy, parents kick dog out, dog ends up saving lives
of children when they fall in water but goes unrecognized. She
thought the book was named after the dog, who she recalls as
"Clarence." We are stuck and have had no luck with usual sources,
"A to Zoo," etc. Please e-mail me directly at mavar27@hotmail.com.
Thanks!

I also use "Open , shut them(twice) - a slightly different version.
Give a little clap
Open, shut them(twice)
Put them in your lap
Creep them, creep them
Way up to your chin
Open up your little mouth
But do not put them in.( fingers)

I also use this one. It is really good for toddlers and babies.

Ring the bell (pull ear)

Knock on the door(knock on forehead)
Peep in the window(pull down eyelid)
Open the latch(push nose up)
Walk right in.(walk fingers into mouth)

Help! I am flabbergasted (maybe I'm just too tired to think out of the

backpacks/book bags (he has 10). Any books, references, that come to
mind? I've tried our OPAC and A to Zoo with little satisfaction.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, last spring, I researched this in order to get my own copy and found out
the following. You can order the book from:

University of Illinois Center for Reading
"Becoming a Nation of Readers"
P.O. Box 2774
Station A
Champagne, IL 61820

Phone: 217-333-7647 (I'd recommend phoning just to confirm order details)

The book costs $7.50 per copy, and shipping is $2.50 per order. All orders
must be prepaid. They will accept credit cards with a minimum order of $20.

I hope the above info is helpful!

Subject: Books promoting tolerance

I have a teacher who has just won two grants, one for fiction, one for
non-fiction, to purchase books that will help to promote tolerance for the
handicapped. She gave me the example of a book that has first person
narrations from different handicapped teens. These books will be used for
6th grade students. She is concerned with language and mature content.
For example, she loves the book "Crazy Lady" but says there is too much
profanity.

My question to you is: what books have you personally seen and/or read
that you could recommend to this teacher? We particularly need
suggestions of non-fiction. The titles should cover mental and physical
handicaps.

I apologize for the cross-posting and appreciate your help.
