Subject: Good mystery series?

Hello All -- request for your FAVE mystery series

Our library has been extensively weeding our fiction collection. We have
many mystery series which are old, dirty and worn, but still circulate
through the roof - such as the Hitchcock THREE INVESTIGATORS series.
These should be discarded for appearances, but they are no longer in print
and we want to replace before discarding.

DO you have any new (in print) FAV mystery series for middle to upper
elem. students? Series for boys in particular, but not exclusively.

TIA - please send directly to me.

ERIN

Does anyone out there remember which Politi title has a plot concerning
a cable car and a monkey? (Who perhaps did a heroic thing).
Couldn't narrow it down from the two databases I had available (Seattle

Subject: Read aloud chapters for 4-5 grades

Please excuse the cross posting.

A teacher has asked me to locate a read-aloud
for 4th and 5th graders, preferably an adventure story. She would like to
read a chapter out of the book and then do art work based upon that
chapter. Many of the students are African American and Hispanic so we
are looking for a book with adventure and minority students. Please
forward your suggestions to me @

achristi@prairienet.org.

I will compile a list and post to both Yalsa-bk
and Pubyac. Please tell me the works that you are thinking of plus any
scenes/chapters that stick out in your mind.

Thanks in advance for the help and time.

A patron has asked if anyone remembers a picture book she read approximately
25 years ago which included the lines

When pots and pans are handy
A big parade is dandy.

She doesn't remember illustrations or anything else. This seems familiar,
but my fellow librarians and I are drawing a blank. Many thanks!

Hi there-
I have a patron who says she is looking for a picture book she read
once. The plot is about two boys. One lives in Arizona and one lives in
New Jersey. They are each moving to the opposite place. The boy who
lives in Arizona thinks all New Jersey has is gangsters.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Thanks.

Dear PUBYACers,

We have an 11 year old patron reading at a 4-5th grade level that would like
historical fiction about the Hittites, Elamites, Amorites and/or Canaanites
during the period that the Israelites arrived in the promised land.

We have tried many different subject heading searches and discovered
"Jericho Moon" which seems to have the correct setting but is written for
adults.

Any clues would be useful. Please respond directly to me at tinman@jcls.org

I will share the results.

Thanks again,

Subject: ALSC BOOTH AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE - VOLUNTEERS WANTED

**Please excuse any cross posting**

We need your help! It is that time of year when we ask ALSC
members who are attending the ALA Annual Conference (June in
New Orleans) if you can spare a few hours to help staff the ALSC
Booth near the Exhibit Area.

The booth will be open from 9-5 on Saturday and Sunday and
from 9-1 and 3-5 on Monday. (It will be closed from 1-3 on
Monday to allow members to attend the ALSC Business Meeting and
President's Program.) We need ALSC members to answer questions people
may have about ALSC--don't worry, there will be plenty of materials and
another member there to help you. If you have never
had a chance to be involved as an ALSC member this is a great way to
start--it is a good way to meet other members from around the country and
hear about how they are involved. It's fun, too!

If you are interested, please reply and let me know a specific
time period during the conference that you would like to volunteer (for
example, Saturday 12-2 and Monday 3-5). Either Amy Lillien or I will
open and close the booth, so all you will have to do is show up.
Remember to include your name and email address as part of
your message.

Thanks in advance for volunteering. If anyone has any questions
about the booth they would like answered before committing time as a
volunteer, feel free to ask.
