Subject: Woodcutter and the Snake

I have a patron seeking a particular version of an Asian folktale. She
believes it may be Chinese in origin. The title is "The Woodcutter and the
Snake." There appear to be various versions of this particular tale, one
of which is "The Woodcutter/Woodman and the Serpent"; however, my patron
is seeking the text of the version titled "The Woodcutter and the Snake."
According to the patron, this is the version recorded by storyteller Laura
Simms. Any help in tracking this down would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Stumper: Fractured Fairy Tale Collection

A local family read this four or five years ago. It was a collection of
sllightly fractured fairy tales. They don't, of course, remember title,
author, or how the individual tales might have been titled. They remember
there was a version of Cinderella, John Henry, Jack and the Beanstalk, and
perhaps one other tale. They think there was some linking tale or
character that tied them all together.

Details they remember: Jack parachuted off the beanstalk. John Henry
lazed around instead of working hard, and wound up learning to use the
steam drill himself. There was something somewhere about a prince
fighting a dragon, who kept getting away from him.

If anyone has a clue what book this might be, the patrons would be most
happy.
