Another chance to plug the site
<http://www.wizardworld.com/library/> which was set up by the nice folks
at Wizard Magazine (with whom I have no affiliation but that I read it)
for JUST THIS PURPOSE. It is a very good starter list of GNs (or you can
just call them "comic books"!) with a good start on the annotations,
but
it was designed to be updated with librarian feedback, so I urge everyone
who is interested in graphic novels in the library to not only post your
replies here, but also check out this site and add your comments to the
list!

Favorite CD software in our children's department include 4 different
Putt-Putt titles (which rarely give us any problems) 101 Dalmations, Toy
Story, several Magic Scool Bus titles, and Dr. Suess ABC's. We have
several CD's that have the Disney titles and they work the best and have
lasted the longest.

Karen--
I don't know how nutty things are where you are, but they are pretty nutty
here! We aren't having a lotto, at least not how you described it, but we
are having a raffle each week, kids can only enter once a week--we'll see if
we can actually control this--and we have enough prizes so that we can pull
about 10 names (maybe more) each week. We are using this as a way to keep
the kids coming to the library all summer--since we'll have a drawing for
all 10 weeks of the summer--but I'm beginning to wonder if that's even going
to be necessary! We also award incentives for what they've been reading, on
their 1st, 3rd, and fifth visits to the library to report. This is my first
summer here, and our first summer doing the raffle, so time will tell!

Julie,
Hi! i have also heard that Ohio has good libraries. All my experience has
been with Illinois Libraries. We are known because we were one of the
first (if not the first) state to have Regional Library Systems. The
systems provide all different kinds of services for the libraries from
consulting and continuing education opportunities to automation
coordination and a sympathetic ear. 8-)
