Subject: Stumper: Kit, Shakespeare
I have a patron who recalls reading a book in the 70's about a girl named
Kit or Cat. In the book, the girl disguises herself as a boy. The book is
either set in Shakespeare's times or is modern with a Shakespeare play being
involved in the story. (It sounded a lot like McCully's Little Kit, or,
The Industrious Flea Circus girl that I offered her that one, but she says
it is not a picture book ,rather a long chapter book. Any ideas?

Subject: stumper-1 eyed/1 eared cat
Friends,
I should have known better. I was in an out of town bookstore and was
smitten by a picture book about a gruff looking 1 eyed, 1 eared cat. By
the end of the story he is revealed to be a sweet tabby, not the menace
he's portrayed to be earlier. I was SURE I'd remember the title so
didn't write it down. Ofcourse, my swiss cheese brain has failed me.
Can you help? Thanks!

Subject: medieval stumper answered
Thanks to all who responded to our query about a boy in medieval times who
is punished with the removal of a body part (the patron thought it was the
hand but it turned out to be the tongue) and goes on to aid a king in
battles. The answer was The King's Shadow by Elizabeth Adler. Thanks to
those who responded with other similar titles. I talked the young man
into taking not only the title he requested but a number of others as
well! (heh heh).

Subject: penguin activities and songs for a school-age program
Librarians and youth specialists,
Our library system's summer theme is "Chill Out with a Cool Book". The
mascot is a penguin named Popscicle. At the regional library where I work,
we are planning a school-age program with a penguin theme. I was wondering
if anyone has any good activities and/or songs that can be used for children
6-12 years of age that relate to penguins, Antarctica, walruses, polar
bears, etc. Thank you for your help.
Jeanenne
