Subject: stumper-adoption
I have a request for adoption stories on the reading level of The
American Girl Books. The mother wants stories about strong active child that
happens to be adopted.
We have the picture books and books explaining adoption but this is not
the emphasis the mom wants.
We have the Orphan Train series, Matt Christopher's book Double Play At
Short, and Myers book Mop,Moondance, and the Nagasake Knight. These are on
the line of being too difficult to read.
The child is a girl but I would like any suggestions and will put
together a bib. Thanks for your collected wisdom.

Hi Wise Ones!
I am looking for math books for grade school students which might teach
about multiplication or fractions or division or..... Something easy to
read to help students
who want to review over the summer. Any ideas or suggestions?
I am also trying to find an address for one of the Dear America writers,
so I can have them
come for a program. I have tried contacting Scholastic, and get nothing
from them in return. If there are any who are in the Middle West I
would especially appreciate knowing
about them. Please reply directly to me. Thanks.
Your collective wisdom is much appreciated.

Subject: stumper-baseball fiction
I have a patron looking for a baseball book which he believes to be either a
picture book or reader but could also possibly be easy junior fiction. All
he remembers is that it is about a boy named (he thought) either Bertram or
Bertie who is not very good at baseball but ends up batting a thousand. He
seems to remember the title being "Bertie Bats a Thousand" but I did
not
come across this or anything similar when I checked our catalog, Best Books,
A To Zoo and CBIP. Any ideas out there? Thanks very much! Please respond

Subject: Best of 99 so far?
I'm in a new book reading slump. My job changed and I no longer order new
books, so I'm more out of touch than usual with the best new children's
books. I know I can track down the journals and gather up starred review
books, but I'd rather get some personal recommendations. So if you have a
favorite children's title of the year so far (1999 pub date), please send it
to me. If there's interest, I'll compile the titles and post for the list.
My favorite so far is "Strudel Stories" by Joanne Rocklin, but I know
there
must be other great titles out ther and I look forward to hearing what books
others have loved from the first half of '99...
