Subject: headphones

Hellos to all, hope that some of you can help. The headphones that came
with our kid's computers are not kid tested and tough, also, they are
not made for kids, but adult heads. Does anyone have a source for
headphones that are made for kids and can withstand some use by them?
Thanks in advance,

Good Morning All!

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to thank everyone for their responses to
my question about policies. I have been on vacation after closing out
summer reading! Your responses were very helpful and I am sure our policy
when completed will be more than adequate. Several of you expressed an
interest in the responses I received. If you will post your fax number or
snail mail address to sakowski@grayson.edu I will send them to you. Many
of the responses were lenghthy which was great! Thanks for taking the time
to help.

Subject: bilingual storytimes

We would like to start a Spanish-English bilingual storytime and would
appreciate suggestions and feedback from those of you who have such a
program or have tried it in the past. Some of my questions include:

- -choosing material (bilingual books or a book in Spanish, then a book in
English)

- -presentation of material (if a book is bilingual, do you read through
in one language first, then the other or do you switch languages
throughout the story?)

- -other activities that were successful

- -resources for such material and activities (I am aware of some
resource catalogs, but suggestions would be appreciated)

Thank You!

Subject: Re: [Re: birthday party]

This reminds me of something that happened in my Baby Storytime today. I had
a group of parents talking about a possible price increase for their
KinderMusic class. They heard it might go up to $150 from $98! They were
raving about some of the sessions and I asked what exactly they did. They
replied, we sing songs, have little instruments, sometimes do a story, and
danced with their baby and did rhymes. I couldn't help but think,
hmmmmm......kind of what we do here every week for FREE! It is amazing, this
summer some of the branches noticed they weren't as busy as previous summers
and when librarians asked parents where their kids were, they were told at
this class or that class; similar (non-sport) activities that we were doing at
the library! Is anyone else noticing that people seem to be equating price
with quality? I wish I could carry a tune so I could charge $100 a person per
ten week session for something I do every week! Talk about a nice schedule!
Just a thought.

Don - I'm no big fan of censorship, but if you are going to maintain
that exposing kids to massive and prolonged amounts of visually depicted
violence is not going to at the very least desensitize them to the awful
effects of real violence and very possibly make them more inclined to
respond violently to situations in their own lives since they have come
to consider it "natural", then I would suggest you are in need of a
reality check If adults choose to expose themselves to violence and
pornography then I guess that's their choice, but I have no problem at
all with limiting the amount of graphic sex AND violence that kids can
be exposed to. We reap the fruit of the seeds we plant - or allow
others to plant. Stepping down off his soapbox -
