Subject: STUMPER: Boy goes through murals to a magic world
Here's hoping you can help us identify this book for a customer. She read
it 15-17 years ago. It is a chapter book at the intermediate or young
adult level. The main character is a boy who meet a dwarfish little man
who is a sorcerer and paints murals. The murals are the entrance to a
magical world. She found the book in the Chevy Chase Public Library in
Washington, D.C.
We've checked our database, Children's Catalog for that time period and
some large library databases.
Any ideas anyone?

Hello all!
One of our programmers is looking for a book that she knew as a child. The
main character was a child who called herself Mrs. Doodleplunk and 7 apples
dropped on her head.
If anyone can give me a lead you can contact me directly at my e-mail address.
Thanks loads!

Subject: short story "The Sexton"
Hello to several listservs! Have a patron seeking what he is sure is an
O. Henry short story titled THE SEXTON.
The plot concerns a young man who applies for a job as a sexton, but is
denied the job as he can neither read nor write. So he goes on to start
his own business and becomes a spectacular success. When congratulated
on this later in life, and told, "Just think what you could have acheived
if you had been able to read and write", he replies, "Well, I would
have
been a sexton"
Problem is, that looking through all the stories listed in our copy of
THE COMPLETE WORKS OF O HENRY,and the big fat original volume of
SHORT STORY INDEX, I can not find a story by that name. Does anyone out
there know its real nameor other info? TIA Gayle Richardson

Subject: Stumper--Keith Hampton Goes to the Moon
I hope someone can help. My patron, Keith Hampton, is looking for a book he
read in the late 60's, although the book looked old (dated) when he read it.
He is sure of the title, as it is his own name. If anyone recalls this
title and can provide an author or publisher, we can satisfy another happy
patron. Already checked OCLC and Fiction, Folklore, Fantasy, and Poetry for
Children, 1876-1985.
Thanks for any help you can give.
