Subject: stumper: dutch mystery war story

I have a patron who is looking for a book about a boy in Holland during a
war. She thinks it was a war centuries ago -- not one of the world wars,
but she is not completely sure. She said the protagonist's name is Dirke.
She said it is a mystery. She remembers reading it in the 60's. Does this
ring a bell with anyone? Thanks so much!

Thanks so much to all who responded to solve the stumper about "raccoons

that did not receive a personal "thank you" from me.

Subject: Picture Books

Hello,

I am looking for picture books that explore different ethnic school
experiences. I am also looking for books that explore odd things about
school and school situations. I have come across This is the Way We Go to
School and Crow Boy. Any sugguestions would be helpful.

Thank you.

Hi all,
Thank you all highly informed stumper fans out there for the answer to:
"What was the horse story with the girl recovering from polio who tries to
save the mustangs from being killed for dog food?" The answer is:
Mustang: Wild Spirit of the West by Marguerite Henry.
> Chicago: Rand McNally, 1966.

Many thanks,
Betsy

Friends, Romans, Countrypersons - lend me your memories, I beseech
thee...

I have a patron (rather long in the tooth) who recalls that decades ago
she used to enjoy a story featuring a Duck who was wont to exclaim QUACK
QUACK QUACK, I WANT MY MONEY BACK! She would like to encounter it
again;
does this strike a chord in the back closets of anyone's cerebellum?
Thanks in advance for searching same -

Subject: Scared Straight

I just received a sencond hand request for "something like Scared
Straight, but for girls." I am not that familiar with Scared Straight I
just know that it is a program that tries to show kids how bad prison is.
Does anyone know if a book or video aimed at girls/women on this topic?
Patron is a teenager.
