Subject: Stumper: Lucy Ladybug character
Morning all,
I have a stumper for you. I had a lady come in one day last week
asking for a book in which there is a character names Lucy Ladybug (she
thinks). The book was read to her daughter in Sunday school around 15
years ago. This is all she can remember, but I told her I would try.
She is also looking for a book she read about 30 years ago about a boy
and girl (could be siblings) who are caught in a cave and the girl combs
her hair with a comb made of wood, waves threaten them. This is all she
can recall.
I would be most greatful if any of you have some good guesses. We
checked the regular sources such as A to Z, Bookfinder, etc.

Subject: Reading List for YAs
HI everyone,
One of the questions I get as the Young Adult librarian is if there is a
recommended book list for teens. I've been the YA librarian here since
November and I'm trying to read as much as I can of the ya literature, but I'm
overwhelmed by all the books. So, my questions are:
Do you hand out a recommended list? And if so, did you compile it yourself or
get it from somewhere? I do have a recommended list from ALA:Top 100 countdown
and the best books for young adults and outstanding books for the college
bound, but I don't know how good these lists are.
And,
Can anyone recommend their top 10 favorites for teens?
Thank you very very much, Julie Winkelstein

Subject: Carousel Horse Stumper
Hi everyone!
I'm posting this for a colleague looking for a book from her
childhood...
It was read in the late 70's/early 80's. A couple of kids (brother and
sister?) go off to stay with either their grandparents or an aunt. In
their (her) barn is a spotted, carousel horse. The children ride this
horse (backwards?) and it takes them to some other magical place
(travelling back in time?). There was also an evil element that
threatens them at some point in the story.
People have suggested to her that she looking for "Something Wicked This
Way Comes". She is not. Nor is she looking for the picture book titled
"Returning Nicholas" from a few years ago.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Subject: CD-ROM software suppliers (and thanks)
Hi there all,
First, let me thank everyone for the answer to the cowboy series stumper.
I think it was probably the Cowboy Small books she was looking for, but as
she left no phone number and has not called back...... Don't you just love
it!!!!
Okay, now to my dilemma. I have always ordered my CD software, both the
in-house ones and the ones for circ, from Edutainment. The prices are
good, and the service was always prompt. They used to deliver in less than
a week, with very few exceptions of backorders. Lately, though, everything
seems to be on backorder, and I am waiting over a month for delivery, if
not longer. (for example, last month, I ordered 32 titles - 3 were
canceled and the rest are all on backorder!!)
I really prefer to place a few big orders throughout the year, rather than
order one at a time direct. Where do you all order from?? I'd like to
find another reasonable and reliable source for software.
If you respond to me directly, I will post the responses to the list.
Thanks so much!!!
Lorie
