Thanks to all for your suggestions of uplifting Holocaust fiction. Several
people recommended Lowry's _Number the Stars_. Other suggestions were a
picture book called _Let the Celebrations Begin!_ by Margaret Wild and Julie
Vivas, and _When the Soldiers Were Gone_ by Vera Propp.

Thanks again!

Hello yakkers,
I'm a lurker who's now an asker.
The sixth graders are doing autobiographies (not biographies).
Can someone be so kind as to direct me to a good source for titles?
I have a few of the recent titles but I want to work up a boolist.
I'd be happy to share the results with everyone.

TIA,

Subject: assistance and opinion requested

Hi,
I'm a graduate student, and I'm doing a paper about a local library that
has had a couple of book challenges. I'm wondering if anyone out there
could tell me if they have also heard comlaints about the books, or even
their personal thoughts about them. The books in question are "Where Did
I Come From?" and "What's Happening To Me?" both by Peter Mayle.

Thanks so much,

Subject: stumper

Hi all,

I have a stumper for you. According to the patron,
this is young adult fiction. A girl has a labyrinth
or maze in her backyard, and at the center is a Civil
War statue. This statue comes alive, and they fall in
love. She thought the title may contain the words
moon or midnight. Any suggestions?

One way to make mouse ears:
Pre-cut strips of black paper, and black circles of the appropriate size.
Tape or staple a black paper strip to fit each child's head, then tape or
staple the ears at the back. I used to use two paper strips per head
(unless you have long black paper). For more durability, use black oaktag
or poster board.
Have fun!

Subject: Stumper - Dealing with teenage diabetes

Following a request from a colleague I am looking for books that would help a 16
year old boy cope with his diabetes. He has only been diagnosed in the last 12
months and does not want to deal with the situation, prefering to pretend that
things are still "normal". Fiction and non-fiction titles that might help him
understand it better would be gratefully received. TIA.

Subject: Re: HEADPHONES HELP!

Stop trying to supply headphones. See if the headphones from walkmans and the like
will work on your computers. If they do then tell the kids they have to bring their
own to listen to the computers. You can also ask for donations of headphones. I get
them all the time and throw them away since I don't like the ones sold with the
walkmans.
Good Luck
