Still, he thinks the main young character's name was "Alo" or something like, and there was an old man with a violin, and either or both of the people were Romany (Gypsy, then, of course). He is less sure that the book was published by Heath, and thinks that it might have been part of a series. We have checked WHO'S WHO IN CHILDREN'S BOOKS, CHARACTERS IN CHILDREN'S LITERATURE and the various handbooks to children's lit, as well as doing some key word searches of NYPL's catalog, but nothing recognizable came up. Not much to go on, I know. Ring any bells? Please respond to the address below.
