A patron came in yesterday and asked me for an easyreader (she said it
looked like the small Dr. Seuss books... maybe the same publisher) with
stories from Dr. Dolittle. I have looked in our catalog, and on Amazon and
found the books by Kleinbaum, but I can't tell by their entries weather
these are easyreaders. I also found a title by Berrien on Amazon, but it
was out of print and there was no information available. Any ideas what
the exact title or author of this easyreader may be would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I have been requested to give a talk and storytelling session on Egypt at a
local elementary school.  While storytelling is no problem, finding lots of
tellable stories from this region is limited.  Any suggestions?????  I am
resigned to generlizing the subject to Middle eastern storytelling.

I have a few ideas but would like input.... please????????

Thanks!

Hi all.  I hope that you can help me.  I'm looking for the origin of the
nursery rhyme Pop Goes the Weasel.  I've found many sources that say it
refers to Pawning back in England.  However, the patron who requested this
information seems to recall it having to do with war.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
This list is a life saver!

I'm doing the topic of "Families" at my toddler story time program.
I'm reading these books:
The Father Who Had 10 Children by Guettier
What Baby Wants by Phyllis Root
You're Just What I need by Ruth Krauss
I follow the story time portion with a short craft (usually simple glue and
stick type of thing) and I'm blank for ideas about families!
Help?
Thanks.

Subject: Latest Teen Read Week Developments!
Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 19:10:58 CDT

The latest developments to help schools and libraries celebrate TRW include
free books AND a chance for teens to vote for their favorite book of 2000.

Scholastic Inc. has just offered to supply two paperback books to any school
or public library that registers their TRW activities by September 29 on the
Teen Read Week website:  www.ala.org/teenread/ff.html.  The information
gathered from the Teen Read Week web site will be used for follow-up and to
provide input for next year's Teen Read Week, to be held October 14-20,
2001. Send additional items such as photographs, locally produced bookmarks
or news items to yalsa@ala.org or ALA/YALSA, Teen Read Week, 50 East Huron
Street, Chicago, Illinois, 60611.

And be sure to tell your teens that during Teen Read Week they can vote  for
the "best book they have read this year, so far" when they logon to
www.ala.org/teenhoopla.  Librarians, teachers, and booksellers can encourage
teenagers to vote while they are participating in Teen Read Week activities
in libraries, schools, and bookstores.  The results of the poll will be
announced soon after Teen Read Week ends.

As you probably know, the theme for the third annual Teen Read Week, is
"Take Time to Read." It is based on an online survey conducted during last
year's Teen Read Week by YALSA in partnership with SmartGirl.com.  Of the
3,072 young men and women surveyed (ages 11-18), nearly half (43%) said they
enjoyed reading for fun, but did not have time to do so. Tips, program
ideas, research, and resources for this Teen Read Week are available on the
Teen Read Week web site.  In addition, posters, lanyards, balloons, and
other items are also available for purchase on the web site and in the ALA
Summer Graphics Catalog.  See the Resources section on the Teen Read Week
web site or request a catalog by calling 800-545-2433, ext. 5046.  To order
by phone, call 1-800-545-2433 and press 7.

Teen Read Week is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA)
and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of ALA.
The goal of the initiative is to encourage teens to "read for the fun of
it."
