Does anyone know how old the song "Wheels on the Bus"
is & how it originated? I was at Bookfest, a
conference at the NY Public Library last Saturday &
this question came up during my book discussion group
about picture books based on songs.

This book may have been published in the early 1960's. The patron is
looking for the author of this particular book. Any clues?
I have checked A to Zoo, Children's Catalog, Amazon and even Bibliofind
without any luck. (sigh).

This is in reply to Cathy Norman re. her holiday lights program. There is
a
wonderful book of children's poetry that was published last year that
celebrates light in all of its various forms. The book is "Flicker
Flash,"
by
Joan Bransfield Graham. I think you might get some ideas for extending
your
program. I'd also be interested in what you have planned, thus far.
I like
your program idea. Good luck!

I'm hopeful someone can help our patron find this book - that vaguely
sounds familiar, but no luck so far. She remembers reading it as a
child in the 60's. It was a picture book that she thinks was done in
black and white silhouette type illustrations. It's about a boy who
keeps swallowing things - a bike and other strange items. In the
illustrations, it shows his "x-ray" - in black and white, with
the
various swallowed objects in view. She thinks there may have been a
phrase similar to "He swallowed more things than Carter has pills".
Please respond to me directly. TIA!

Halloween is over and you may have already started planning for your next
summer reading program. While planning, consider applying for the 2001

administered by ALSC and sponsored by BWI, provides $3000 to a library to
support an outstanding summer reading program for children. Applications
are due December 15, 2000. For more information on the 2000 winner, or to
obtain application information, visit the ALSC webpage at
