The book is The Legend Of Rah & The Muggles by Nancy Stouffer. I read a
blurb in the "books" section of Entertainment Weekly 2-3 weeks ago, but I
don't have the magazine anymore and can't find it on their website.  I
found the book listed on Powells.com.

"A Muggles Struggle" was published
on March 15, 2001 by the Austin American-Statesman (Austin TX)

"Harry Potter fans look out: Some new Muggles are coming to town Or are
they old ones? "The Legend of Rah and the Muggles" whose author Nancy
Stouffer is suing JK Rowling for allegedly steading her ideas, will be
reissued by Thurman House in May. The book was first published in 1984. In
"Rah and the Muggles," which includes a character named Larry Potter,
Muggles are little people who care for two orphaned boys. In Rowling's
books "muggles" is the word wizards use for non-magical humans."

"Plaintiff J.K. Rowling is the author of the very successful Harry Potter
series of books published by plaintiff Scholastic Inc. The books tell the
story of a boy named Harry Potter who lives with his hated aunt, uncle and
cousin, all of whom are known as "Muggles," connoting humans without magical
abilities. Harry, who has magical abilities, leaves his home and makes new
friends, travels, and has many adventures which are chronicled in the Harry
Potter books.

Nancy Stouffer is the author of works based on a set of characters, in
particular a 1980 children's book entitled The Legend of RAH and
the Muggles. Scholastic and Rowling (collectively, Scholastic) sued Stouffer
for a declaratory judgment that they are not infringing
Stouffer's copyright or trademark rights, and that those rights have been
misrepresented. Stouffer counterclaimed for trademark and
copyright infringement, and for various other claims under the Lanham Act
and state law."

Sorry all,
I noticed I misspelled plagiarism in this email and wondered if I had
done the same in the Google search, I must have since when I tried again
the answer came right up, Nancy Stouffer Legend of Rah and Rah and the
Muggles.  Now of course the question from the patron is, "Are these books
available anywhere?"

Several weeks ago someone mentioned a book called A Big Book of Hat
Patterns.  I must have written it down incorrectly because we cannot =
locate
a book by that name anywhere.  (We tried ILL and of course BIP and Amazon.
Could whoever mentioned that book send me the correct name and the author?
I'd really appreciate it!  P.S. Am I correct in assuming that it is

Thanks to so many people responding to my need for ideas for a egg hunt for
a Peter Rabbit party! Here are the good ideas I got:

1. Do a sticker hunt!  You could either get the Mello Smello stickers that
are
egg shaped (about 5 or 6 per square--they often come on a roll) or use
rabbit stickers!

2. We had our Easter program this past Saturday. Part of the program was an
egg hunt.  We used paper eggs cut with a Ellison die cut and hid them in
the children's area.  Some of the eggs had stamps on them which could be
exchanged for prizes.  It was quick and easy and no mess.

3. What about having them guess where the rabbit is hide?  A stuffed animal
whatever, they don't have to dig or grab anything just look around and guess
where he/she might be.

4. PETER CAULIFLOWER TAIL
Break up a cauliflower into flowerets..dip into ranch dressing.
other foods raisins, pretzel twigs, apple slices...

Carrot Scavenger Hunt

Cut carrots from orange construction paper and glue on the
green construction paper tops. "Plant" them all around the
library..Let them redeem their carrots for snacks, such as a
small box of raisins, a pack of gum, a bag of pretzels, or
carrot cake mini muffins....

Costumes are provided free of charge by the publishers for promotional use
only. The only cost to you is shipping to send the costume to its next
event.

5. Would it be too much to have some kind of hunt in the library?  You could
make a simple rabbit shape and stick them all over the place--this works
better for smaller kids--

6. YOu could hide Peter's little jacket some hwere in the library to be
found.
YOu could have a station where
you have the  flower pots upside down and you have to guess which one Peter
is under.
You could do the tried and true pin the tale on the rabbit game.

I have a patron who is looking for childrens videos of
stories that have a more multicultural cast: black,
white, asian, etc.... She doesn't have any particular
group in mind, and she said that she isn't really
looking for things where multiculturalism is the
message. Rather, she's just looking for good stories
that happen to have diverse characters. I've had some
luck locating a few titles, but I'd like to do better
than that. I'd be happy to take suggestions of
particular videos, and I'd be even happier to learn
some good sources for this kind of information.

Please respond to me off-list (adge73@yahoo.com), and
I'll post a summary. I learn so much from this list!

I read "Who Killed My Daughter?" several years ago. I am also curious to
know if there is a sequel. Our computer catalog indicates that Dell
published the same book in 1994 that is "Updated with startling new
revelations." I don't know if this can be considered a sequel or not.
