Hi Everyone,
I am hoping that many of you would share your absolute
favorite Preschool Storytime Craft with me. Ofcourse,
I'm looking for developmentally appropriate ones, but
welcome all responses--especially if such are
accompanied by any book titles/themes to which you
connect these crafts. Also, I'm interested in finding
out what your favorite preschool storytime book to
share is---does not have to be related to said craft.
Thanks soooooooooooooo much,
Leigh Lambert

Sounds like a neat idea, but our library wouldn't even let us have a fire =
truck here for kids to see, for safety reasons.=20

We hosted a big rig rodeo. Invited big trucks from the public utilities, =

street sweepers, garbage trucks, etc and the kids had a blast. Of course, =

our bookmobile was there, too.

I also struggled with this topic a few weeks ago. I got many good
resources
for my preschool story hour from the following web site. Hope it
helps.

We buy almost all of our videos from Midwest Tapes (www.midwesttapes.com).
They are a company that only sells to libraries. You have the choice
of new
or used videos.

I use all the regular book review sources as well as Video Librarian.
My
problem is actually getting the great videos from the smaller companies.
We
order through FAR and B & T and acquisitions frowns on ordering direct.
At
least they take they time and then often the videos are unavailable.
Any
suggestions for actually getting the videos?

Subject: Summer Reading ~ Support you state and region
Date: Sun, 11 Nov 2001 12:15:00 CST
Dear Cheryl,
Would you share more details? Is your library
part of a state or a
regional library system? Is one of your regional/state library
benefits a
region regional/state reading program? I am a regional youth services
consultant for the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems. Every year,
librarians throughout our state assist our regional library systems (by
volunteering on our regional and statewide summer reading committees, by
sharing ideas and suggestions, and more...) to develop a statewide summer
reading program. It is tremendous public relations for our
Massachusetts
libraries to show everyone in our commonwealth that our libraries work
together as a team to best serve their communities. Our annual themes
are
the "sizzle" that attracts new users into our libraries. We
make sure that
all of our summer promotional materials include a credit line that promotes
our Massachusetts libraries and regional and state library support systems:
"This summer reading program is sponsored by your local Massachusetts
library, the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems, and the Massachusetts
Board of Library Commissioners".
If your summer program is a state or regional
summer program, I urge
you to communicate your concerns to your state/regional summer reading
program contact. Every library in our state (and yours) that
participates
in the annual summer reading program not only encourages children, teens,
and parents to come to the library to read during their vacation months but
such programs also generate state and local library pride and provide you
with an opportunity to promote your local and state library services.
Your
library is a most important component in your state/regional summer reading
program - contact your state/regional summer reading program contact to
develop a plan so that you can remain a part of your state's team this
summer.
Sincerely,
Janet Eckert
Youth Services Consultant
Western Massachusetts Regional Library System
Note: This year, our theme is "Americana" and our program is
called "A
Star*Spangled Summer At Your Library!" - we have been working with our
team
of Massachusetts librarians to plan this program for over a year!

Our Children's Librarian has just received her copy of the summer

theme--"Join the winner's circle-Read" and would appreciate some
input
from this list. What theme will your library use for 2002? Thanks in
advance.
