Please forgive the cross-posting.
In a recent interview, Paul McCartney was quoted as saying that
he and his late wife Linda made an animated film from David
Wiesner's book Tuesday that was shown at several film festivals.
It is not listed on Amazon. Has anyone ever seen it or heard
anything about it?

We had a pet show last summer as part of our Summer Reading Program.
The children could bring any kind of pet they wanted, and we had a local
vet as judge, with prizes for "Most Unusual, Biggest, Smallest, Looks
Most Like Owner", etc. I too was concerned about how the pets would
get
along and that one might escape and be lost, so I sent a note requiring
that all pets be on a leash or in a pet carrier and have all required
vaccinations. It went very well, there were no incidents, in fact it
was probably our most popular program of the summer. Our vet was great,
explaining his choices and giving the kids tips on pet care and showing.

Does anyone who uses assignment alert forms for teachers offer them any
incentives to send them to the library?
Just curious.

A patron has asked for a book she remembers reading (age?!) about a
canyon of animals who discover an abandoned Christmas tree and then
learn about Santa or Christmas (she wasn't real sure). Does this ring
any bells? Thanks!

Hi, I have a patron who has heard of a book with the following plot (of
course he doesn't remember author or title): Father (of Polish or some
other Eastern European nationality) is put into jail and doesn't want his
daughter to know so he writes to her as if he were at sea. This may or
may not be new-ish; based on fact/may or may not be nonfiction; daughter
drew the pictures; Thanks in advance!

but a comment...
I WISH the incentive for teachers to give us the current assignments is that
their students would be better able to complete their assignments. I have
spoken to the school librarians about this and they have the same problem
trying
to get assignments from teachers before an entire section of books is
checked
out! It sort of bothers me that we would have to offer them prizes for
doing
such a simple thing as faxing a form or making a phone call to help their
own
students, but if it works, I will try it!

Does anyone recognize this story? ~
A patron asked today about a chapter book that she read about 22 years ago.
Set in the latter part of the 1800s, a young girl and her family live in
Pierre, South Dakota and are trying to get the powers that be to make Pierre
the capitol of the state. That's all she told me about the book. I couldn't
find anything in our OPAC that seemed to be a match and John Gillespie's
"Best Books for Children" did not describe a book like this. Thanks
for any
help you can give me.

Hi all! Here is a stumper: A patron was asking about a picture book
where soldiers and students are in some sort of soup eating contest.
The soup handles are quite long and the soldiers try and eat the soup
themselves but cannot get the long spoons into their mouths. The
students win the contest because they figure out they can eat the soup
by feeding each other. Ring any bells? I have faith in the amazing
collective brain! Please feel free to respond on or off the list. My
email is amazza@mln.lib.ma.us Thanks,

Once we tried doing a drawing for a bookstore gift
certificate. We did it one per semester. I don't know
that it made much difference in the number that were
turned in though. I think the best way to increase
participation is to make it easier. The more options
teachers have, the more likely they are to use it:
send by fax, email, online form, etc.

A patron is looking for a chapter book she read as a child, in the early
1960's.
She believes the title is The Beekeeper but it might just include that word
in the title.
A girl in the story is named "Scout"
The patron's daughter is named Scout and she wants to share this book with
her.
If you have any ideas please contact me directly.
Thanks!
