We just did what will possibly be an annual tea party at the library.  =
We have an American Girls Club, and the meetings are monthly from =
September to May.  We usually have some sort of party to celebrate the =
end of another year.  We have done a Cinco de mayo party, a luau, and =
this year we did the tea party.  it was quite a lot of work, and I am so =
glad that our department assistant has had some experience with tea =
parties since I had none.
We sent invitations and asked for rsvps.  We are fortunate enough to =
have a comunity room in the library, and that's where the party was.  We =
used white disposable tablecloths, scattered purple and pink and green =
balloon confetti on the tables, used paper doilies as placemats. had =
"crystal" (clear plastic) plates and flatware, and got some neat napkins =
in purple and pink and green from Costco.  We had bud vases with simple =
bunches of flowers in white and pink and purple;  they were daisy-like.
We borrowed tea cups from anyone we could think of, and had hot tea =
(Earl Grey) and a cold raspberry tea in a punchbowl, with raspberry tea =
ice rings to keep the punch cold.  We scrounged tea pots, and borrowed =
some silver and crystal pieces for glamour.
The menu included a pasta salad (rotini with chopped green peppers and =
carrots tossed with an Italian dressing), a fruit salad (strawberries, =
kiwi, honeydew, cantaloupe and grapes) and a green salad (assorted =
greens with sliced strawberries, walnuts and dressed with a raspberry =
vinaigrette.
We also had cucumber sandwiches (a hit!) which were sliced English =
cucumbers on Pepperidge Farm sandwich bread (Thin bread)spread with a =
thin layer of whipped cream cheese.  We also had peanut butter and jelly =
sandwiches, and we also had plain peanut butter sandwiches, and cookies =
from the pepperidge Farm outlet store.  Love those outlet stores!!  We =
would have had mini cupcakes if I could have found my mini cupcake pans, =
but unfortunately they have disappeared from home.
I bought a box of 125 sugar cubes for the hot tea and piped a tiny =
flower and two leaves on each of them, and not one was left over!!
We were surprised at how much hot tea was consumed.  We have a coffee =
urn, and we used it to heat water and then tossed some tea bags in;  we =
went through two urnsful.
Since we always do a craft at the AG meetings, we decided to do a =
variation on the newspaper hats--we put out all of our tissue paper, and =
asked each person to pick three sheets in whatever colors appealed.  We =
then mooshed the paper onto their heads, and ran a row of masking tape =
around their heads to form the hat crown.  We then tunred them loose =
with feathers and buttons and glitter an Ellison Die flowers and bits of =
ribbon and whatever else we thought would work--and the hats were =
astonishing.  We have taken pictures, but they are stil in the digital =
camera, the technology of which escapes me...sigh...
What thrilled and touched me was the fact that the moms came ready to =
have a good time, and they did.  The kids always do, but it was nice to =
see the moms enjoying themselves.
It was a lot of work, but the 42 people attending all realy had a great =
time, and they want to make this an annual event.

I did a tea party at my previous library, complete with stories.  We had
"fancy" p & j sandwiches cut out with cookie cutters and they decorated
cookies with icing and various little goodies.  We had 2 dozen children =
and
I provided them with china tea cups -- no saucers.  I was fortunate to =
have
a set of 12 in one pattern, 8 in another, and 4 in the last.  I've heard
that some frequent thrift shops to pick up inexpensive cups.  No reason =
you
couldn't use paper/styrofoam, but the real cups give it a nice touch.
