Librarians who serve young adults are invited to participate in a new
web site, teenlibrarian.com (URL: http://www.teenlibrarian.com).
The
site includes a home page featuring regularly updated news items and
interviews. The current Q & A is with Dawn Rutherford, a Young Adult
Librarian in Bellvue, WA, who dyed her hair purple in an attempt to
encourage summer reading!
There is also a message board for discussion of books,
programming, outreach, or any topic of interest to teen librarians. In
addition, there is a chat room, a page listing other links and
resources, an archive of news items and interviews, a careers page, and
a directory of participating librarians.
I created this site as an online community for librarians who work with
teenagers, whether in a public library, school, or other setting. While
I will be regularly updating the home page with news and interviews, I
hope the message boards and chat room will become the center of the
site as visitors exchange ideas and information.
I hope this site will become a valuable resource for its users. I will
welcome news items and announcements, so if you know of a teen
librarian with a successful program, would like to recognize someone
who's been promoted or given an award, have a link to an article of
interest, know of a committee looking for members, hear about a grant
or giveaway, etc., please let me know and I will make it a news item on
the teenlibrarian.com home page.
As the site will continue to evolve over the next few months, please
don't hesitate to make suggestions or corrections, or to send news, job
opportunities, links to good web sites, and anything else that might be
useful. The home page includes links to a form for submitting
information, or you may e-mail me directly.
Thanks,
Miranda Doyle
