Subject: fun websites for preschoolers?
Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays!
Our Library has had Barney games and a couple others
on our computers for preschoolers for the last several
years as part of a grant. Unfortunately our license
for these games is about to expire and for a variety
of reasons we have decided not to replace them with
other software. A lot of our patrons look forward to
playing these games when they come to the library and
we'd like to be able to replace them with *something*
if not software.
Can any of you recommend some good websites for
preschoolers that we can direct these patrons to?
We'd like stuff that is very easy and intuitive (since
often the parents don't sit with them even though they
are supposed to) and fun. Educational would be nice,
but isn't necessary--shapes, coloring, matching, ABCs,
counting...that sort of thing.
Sites for older kids would be okay too but we're
really desperate for preschool stuff.
I'll be happy to post responses later. Please send to
jbaker93711@yahoo.com
Thank you!

Jennifer,
I began reading the website you referred us to and
found it fascinating. I will continue until I
complete it. I suggest more people read it to get a
basic understanding of a religion that is foreign to
most of us.

I am looking for ideas for a bike safety theme storytime for kids in
the 1st and 2nd grades. I have a policeperson coming to talk and I
know of someone who was injured who will come and speak. I need some
craft ideas to tie into the theme. Any other ideas would be greatly
appreciated also! THANKS!

I seem to remember someone recently asking if anyone had suggestions for
making snowballs for a program. I didn't have any suggestions at the
time
so I deleted the message. Just before Christmas my husband saw a way to
make them (or bows) using plastic sacks (the ones with handles given out
at
so many stores). The instructions follow:
1) Gather the bag into a long, skinny tube-like length with the handles
on
one end.
2) Fold the length in half, then in half again.
3) Wind a rubber band around the middle until it is tight.
4) Trim both ends to remove any folded areas.
5) Make 2 or 3 vertical cuts in both ends.
6) Then fluff out pieces. You might want to make some additional
vertical
cuts to give the snowball more fluffiness. (Is that a word?)
Of course, these look most like a snowball if you use plain white bags,
but
all the ones in my house had writing on them (or are blue Wal-Mart
bags).
Maybe you could use small white garbage bags, but that would cost money
and
negate the satisfaction of recycling!
Happy snowball fights,

We keep it in the YA area here at HPL. EGM is a magazine enjoyed by
kids,
teens and adults. The subject appeal makes it a perfect teen fit, and
one
article out of one issue in my opinion doesn't make it too adult. Plus,
just because the 9 Naughtiest Games are listed doesn't mean the library
or
the parent has to run out and get them. Just my personal opinion...

Hi everyone--
I had a parent complain about one of the recent issues of Electronic
Gaming
Monthly--there was an article about the 9 Naughtiest Games Ever. I'm
wondering if anyone knows what age this is geared towards. We have it
in
the YA area...
I looked at the website and through the mag, but didn't see any kind of
target audience info.
Thanks!

kind of permission slip/release form/emergency form

What kind of activities did you have? any other pros

Greetings PUBYAK-ers--
I am looking for a jobber or distributor that offers a catalog of
current
board
books (preferably a print one). Now that Bookmen has been taken over by
Ingram, I've been told that the only way I can see a list of their
offerings is
if I'm in a process of ordering.
I know this question came up earlier this fall, but I didn't see a
response
other than someone suggesting Ingram.

Hello all:
I was wondering if I could have some collective input on a situation. I
just recently purchased a collection of board games to be used in the
library for tweens.
Included in this collection is a ouija board. We have had some concern
among the staff as to whether this is an appropriate board game to offer
for tweens.
Aer there any of you that have used a ouja board in a program, or have
strong feelings on the use of them?
Any input is appreciated.

A patron in her mid-twenties is looking for a book that she loved when
she was little that is about an Asian girl who gets to walk upon the
bottom of the sea when the water is somehow removed or drawn back. She

girl goes on to discover all the life on the bottom of the sea after
she's able to walk there. Any answers for this one? Thanks in advance!!
