Hi Pubyaccers,

A patron is looking for a book she read as a child, author and title unknow=
n.  She read it in the late 50=92s of early 60=92s.  It had several stories=
of which she remembers two, one was about a child who offered to give the =
baby Jesus a ride in his wagon if he got one for Christmas.  The other was =
about raccoons.  The book had pictures and was about the size of a magazine=
.
The story of the Little Red Wagon appears everywhere on the Internet althou=
gh I was not able to find anything in book form.  Using WorldCat I found : =
HOME FOR CHRISTMAS AND OTHER STORIES. It has a story entitled =93The Red W=
agon=94 but the date doesn't fit because the book was published in 1989.

Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

Best,

--Ravi

Does anyone have the new book by Caroline Cooney, Goddess of Yesterday, in
their collection and if so, is it considered a J or YA fiction title?
Please respond directly to me.  Thank you!

I a great big, bear-y thanks to everyone who responded to my bear song
stumper.  The title of the song was "The Other Day, I Met a Bear" or
just "I Met A Bear."  The original stumper is below.  Once again, thanks
a bunch!

Stacey Irish-Keffer

Original stumper:  Bear song question

I am in the process of planning our library's 20th Annual Bear Parade
and I need a specific bear song.  It is a call and response song where
the leader sings, "There was a bear..."  And the audience repeats the
phrase, "There was a bear...."  And so forth to the end of the song.
Anyone have any ideas?  I have looked on the Internet and some of our
children's song compilations with no luck.  Thanks in advance.
Please reply directly to me.

This is a question that has been puzzling me of late, and I'd like to see
what the group thinks.  What is it that turns a kid off of reading?  When we
get them in the first grade (or even earlier), they are eager and excited to
get books and start reading.  But 3-4 years later, some kids would rather be
hung by the neck for a few minutes than be caught with a book.  What happens
in the meantime?  Why is it mostly boys?  I've read what Jim Trelease thinks
(worksheets, lack of role models, etc.), but some kids seem to be able to
rise above all that and love reading.  And some have a house full of role
models, yet refuse to read.  I'm still formulating my ideas, but would like
to see what a discussion brings. I've been a children's librarian since
1978, 14 years in my current position, and it seems to be getting worse.
What do you think?  You can respond to me, but it might be better if you
respond to PUBYAC.
