Just out of curiosity, I have only heard from this group of dress codes for
women.  Do men have them? Interestingly, I don't remember any men even
making a comment about this. Not even a sarcastic comment. Guess we're too
politically correct (the term for "big chickens"). And I won't make a
comment either!!!  But this debate certainly is amusing.

Dear Pat,

Being a huge film buff, I thought I would respond to this inquiry. The full
screen or pan and scan version is an altered version of the film made to fit
your television. The aspect ratio has been changed so that when you watch
the
picture only part of the original picture is visible. In short, the top and
bottom of the image has been chopped off. (Imagine looking at only half of a
painting by Monet or Picasso and you get the idea ) The wide screen version
or letter box version has black bars at the top and bottom of the screen so
that the image may be viewed in it's original aspect ratio without any
altering of the image. Wide Screen is the preferred way to view films on DVD
and VHS.

Hope this helps.

Lynn,

Thought you might find this e-mail on my list-serv a reinforcement for my
quandry on whether or not to get rid of the Babysitters Club series too.  It
will be interesting to see what replies she may get about a replacement.

I probably won't delete the series until I have a need for shelf space in
the
Juv red dot area, but this gives me the affirmation that it may be time to
do
it!

Hey All-

I completely agree...as a Young Adult Librarian and proud owner of a
tatoo, I must say that I impressed that so many librarians out there have
tattoos and/or piercing.  We really are a cool bunch, aren't we?

Two more cents---So, to be a cool librarian one must be tatooed?:)

Yes, my one ear has four piercings (no cartiledge) however,  I am proudly
tatoo free,

Therein lies the dilemma--who's to say when one has
too many visible tattoos?

True indeed. I knew a librarian who had both legs
completely covered in tattoos. As long as he wore
pants, his job didn't care (He worked at the New York
Public Library!)

THis is a fantastic site, but unfortunately it has not been updated since
Nov. 1999.  I have tried submitting pics for myself and several co-workers
but nothing ever came of it.

GALE--UXL has a great series called Eureka. It covers
all the basics plus some that are a bit more unusual
(like post-it notes for example--turns out Romie
really didn't invent them)The index can be used to
look up inventors or inventions so that is pretty
helpful also.

My local police chief is coming to StoryTown this month and will read a
book.
While he mentioned Goodnight Moon as his favorite, I thought perhaps
Policeman Small by Lenski would be better.  We don't have it but I hope to
obtain it through ILL.  Does anyone have any other ideas or books for this
family storytime of 0-5's?  Please reply off list.

i personally think most of the tattoos i've seen on
coworkers are pretty tasteful. i've seen a lot of
butterflies and other benign symbols. i don't think we
have anyone on staff who would want to permanently
mark their body with something that might someday
offend their grandchildren. i'm only jealous because
i'm too much of a chicken to do it myself. i always
said i would get one before my 30th birthday so i
could say i did something crazy in my twenties (at
least something that i could talk about) but i missed
that chance 2 years ago. oh well i guess i'll stick
with occasional henna design. i did have pink hair
once though.

Having a husband who is a movie buff, we usally get widescreen versions =
because more of the screen is in the shot.  Fullscreen version cut out a =
lot of side action, in most action movies.  Most people who are into the =

version (my husband works for them, and this fustrates him to no end).
Hope this helps
