I don't know if the SUNLINK Weed of the Month Club at
http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed has covered this particular Dewey area but
it deals with weeding a different non-fiction area each month and has
archives back to 1997. You might check there for some guidance.
This link may also be of some help:

Please do post other responses as weeding is always a tricky task and so
difficult for book lovers.

Hello Pubyac,

I am in the process of weeding non-fiction and would like some advice on
criteria for weeding fairytales & folktales-398.2's. I have found myself
reluctant to get rid of anything, because I really like this section! Any
advice or comments are welcome. I will post responses to the list.

Thank You,

had any money for kits, but my director just informed me a local =
foundation wants to give us money for kits!!  So to whomever posted the =
original message could you please email me more info?

PLEASE EXCUSE THE CROSS POSTING
PLEASE FORWARD AS APPROPRIATE

Thanks to all who have already sent me information for my
forthcoming book, 50 + Model Summer Library Reading Programs to be
published by Neal-Schuman.  I've gotten information on some wonderful
programs, but still would like to find out about more of your best
summer library reading programs.  It's not too late to submit
information about your summer library reading program.

It does not matter whether your library is in a rural area or
in the heart of a major urban area, I need to hear from you.  If you
target preschoolers or teens or anyone in between, I would like to learn
why you feel your program should be included in my forthcoming book.
Please tell me about a single program or a series of programs over the
whole summer.  I want the entire spectrum of programs and yours could be
the one that completed the picture.

If you have deleted the survey I posted a while back and would
like another, just e-mail me and I'll send it out to you.  Complete as
much of the survey as you can.  If I need additional information after
you submit your program, I'll contact you.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.  You contribution to
this book will help all librarians improve their service to children,
teens, and their families.

It looks like it's time to update our collection in this area, after a
mother
came in looking for these types of books for her 9 year old daughter whom
the
doctor says the 9 year old is already exhibiting signs of puberty!  Our
collection is a bit out dated.

If you have a recent addition to your collection regarding puberty for girls
and boys alike, please e-mail me directly and I'll post a list to the
listserv.

Thanks!

ALA introduces"Another 'Hysteric' Librarian for Freedom"
button

Today the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Intellectual
Freedom introduced a new product for the thousands of librarians who
fight everyday to protect the privacy rights of library users.
"Another 'Hysteric' Librarian for Freedom" button
acknowledges this important work while referencing the recent
misstatement by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

For the last several months, the attorney general has toured American
cities, trying to drum up support for the USA PATRIOT Act, which gives
law enforcement easy access to library records with minimal judicial
oversight.  In several of his speeches, he has described
librarians-among the first to denounce portions of the act as giving
unprecedented powers of surveillance to the government, particularly in
libraries-as "hysterics."

To help raise awareness of the overreaching aspects of the USA PATRIOT
Act, ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom will sell the buttons for
$2 each. All proceeds support the programs of the office.  To order the
button, call the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom at 800-545-2433,
ext. 4220, or visit its Web site at http://www.ala.org/oif.

For more information on the USA PATRIOT Act, please visit
