Feisty librarians unite! Here is your chance to
rant  (if it's not yet Wednesday afternoon):

I just discovered that Madonna will be on the
Tonight Show with Jay Leno THIS Wednesday night,
November 26.  If you'd like to let Jay know your
feelings about Madonna's comments about
children's
books when she was on David Letterman and request
that he NOT let her get away with such ridiculous
remarks on HIS show, then send an e-mail to the
address below with the following subject line:

tonightshow@nbc.com

Subject line:  Tell us your thoughts on a
particular show

(or use the feedback form on the show's website)
http://www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/index.shtml

We could inundate Tonight Show e-mailboxes with
read-aloud suggestions for Madonna.  Her son is
3, her daughter is 7. Note: she has already
mentioned to the press that favorite books are
The Giving Tree, Chronicles of Narnia, and Winnie
the Pooh.

Dear Friends,

I saw an article this morning in a paper called the Montclair Times. Madonna
made a surprise author visit to a school in Montclair, New Jersey. I believe
the school was called Kimberly Academy.

The article went on to say that in addition to Madonna visiting, in the past
the school had also played host to authors like J.K. Rowling and Cornelia
Funke.

The article angered me. I'd like to see Madonna go visit some of the Title
One schools in Jersey City and Staten Island. Those are the children who
would
really benefit from a visit by someone of her stature.

In my opinion she isn't out to help anyone. It's just another one of her
calculated PR stunts.

Jay et al

It is my understanding that you will be hosting Madonna as a guest on your
show on the 26th November. She is a dynamite woman, and wields influence in
areas maybe she is not even aware of. Recently on the Letterman show (can I
say that here????) she commented on the lack of good childrens books
available etc. etc. I like to give anyone the benefit of the doubt, I like
to give them second chances and so I will do that for Madonna. I will hope
she redeems herself somehow on your show. What a coup that would be for you
both!  If she wishes to ADD to the outstanding collection of childrens
literature, please do and glad of it. But she has caused a huge uproar and
even disappointment in her as woman/mother/nurturer in the kid lit community
from teachers, librarians, parents, authors, publishers .... publicity is
cool I guess, but why not gain from it for a radical truth, or for a woman
of music and performance such as herself adding writing to her repetoire.

Jay et al ..... take her to task on this ... there is tons of older,
wonderful classical kid lit that is extraordinary, and there is a huge
number of fabulous, memorable, meaningful modern kid lit as well. She is too
smart to say something so dumb! Get 'er!
