This brings you to a page where you can choose which year to search. Click on the year you want, which will bring you to a search page with instructions on how to formulate your search. Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2004 21:02:23 CST I thank god I didn't know about Freud, oedipal complexes, Christian fish symbols of reason & morality, id, ego, etc., when I was a kid. I would never have enjoyed Seuss' works! I'm not so sure I want to know about them now. I will continue to enjoy Seuss' books until I find something so bad that I think it's inappropriate to read - to myself or the children. That was just too much! Thanks for sharing though, Wanda. ------------------------------ From: <laanders@bellsouth.net> To: <pubyac@prairienet.org> Subject: Postcards MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2004 21:02:38 CST Hi everyone! I hope you had a good holiday. Thanks so much for all of the postcards you've sent. We have received cards from 39 states! They will make a great display for our summer reading program this year, "Book It Across America." We do not yet have cards from the following states: Connecticut, Georgia, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Washington. If you have time and could send a card, we would really appreciate it. I will send you one from Nashville. I am starting my new year with a stumper! My patron is searching for a book with the following plot: A substitute teacher replaces a teacher in a classroom and begins to = "brainwash" the students. One such instance is when the students salute = the flag. The teacher convinces them to cut the flag instead. This = way, everyone would have a piece of it. She also encourages the = students to pray in school. The main character is quite smart and sees = right through the teacher's brainwash attempts. My patron thought this title is timely with the PATRIOT Act and believes = that the title was published in the 1990s and contains 3 simple words. =20 I have checked A to Zoo and Novelist. Please respond off list at reisenlr@co.rowan.nc.us TYIA! Apologies for cross-posting to two lists. I'm planning a bulletin board display for my teen area for Valentine's Day. I recall something last year about a display of anti-valentines, for those who are broken-hearted or happily alone or hate the holiday .... but of course, I can't find it in my folders so perhaps I did not keep it. Does anyone have a suggestion? So far I have: Heartless Holiday Valentine Reading for the Rest of Us pretty yucky I know. Any help appreciated, and will post a list of suggestions if there's interest. Restriction questions have come up in my library system and I would appreciate any feedback from the list. Do any other libraries place restrictions on children's/minor's cards at the parent's/guardian's request as to topic (i.e. no wicca materials to check out to the minor) or format of materials (i.e. no dvds or cds to check out to the minor). If so, how do you handle the restrictions? Our discussion has been a split between wanting to provide information to everyone vs. parents putting us in the role of "parents" by making it our job to tell kids at the circulation desk that they cannot check out certain materials. Thanks for your help!
