Subject: Replacing tapes for Readalong kits

Thanks to all who responded to my plea for a source to replace these
cassettes. The general concensus seems to be that a lot of you have the
same problem and that there is no easy answer. Some of the advice I did get:
- ---Listening Library replaces tapes free of charge for the life of the kit.
- ---Books on Tape or Recorded Books charges a minimal fee after 1 year.
- ---Spoken Arts, Teach Me, Live Oak Media, Smithsonian Wildlife kit series
all replace for a fee.
It was also suggested that we might buy two kits and save the extra for
replacement. Nice, if you have the budget!
Thanks for all the tips and happy replacing!

Subject: Recent Stumper Revisited

Help!!! I just had a stumper asked me that sounds startlingly
familiar from the last several weeks. I cruised the archives, but they
aren't recent enough to help me.

The story: a young girl goes to visit a doll that lives near the
frozen peas in a supermarket.

Please take pity on me, and send the answer directly to my address.
Thanks!

Subject: Stumper - short people

Hi there-
A patron knows someone who has a child who is about 5 years old now, who
has the medical condition that will keep him short for life (I don't
remember the correct term for dwarfism). The mother hasn't told the
child yet because she can't think of a way to tell him that he will be
growing differently than other kids. The patron asked me if I knew of
any booksthat the mother and child could read together so she can tell
him about his condition. They can be fiction or non-fiction; picture
books are preferable. Also anything the mother can read so she can be
prepared to answer questions from her son. The boy doesn't notice any
difference yet, but the mother is afraid that he will eventually have to
deal with being teased by kids who do notice that he is different. So
if anyone out there can recommend books about dwarfism or physical
differences (esp. relating to size) please email me at :
jsimpson03@snet.net Thanks!

Does anybody out there remember a series in the 1960's that involved
two boys(the patrons assures us it is not the Hardy's!), who traveled,
did projects like constructing a race car and their father was a
writer. The patron is sure this series is still around and wants to
introduce his children to it-except we are all drawing a blank, except
for the Hardy Boys or Tom Swift??? Any help would be appreciated!!

PU>Has the internet been a problem for the children as far as inappropriate

Perhaps half a year ago this list was at least knee deep in blood
concerning this very issue - maybe there's some way you can get at that
rather spirited indeed discussion through the archives without our
having to open that particular can of worms again. Suffice it to say
that opinions, experiences and policies varied considerably.
