Help! These two have us stumped! One of our customers is looking for
a
book that she read about five years ago. The book, written for upper
elementary/young teens, may or may not have been new at that time. The
customer is fairly certain that the title includes the word "talisman"
and
may also include the word "hand." The characters, number and
gender
unknown, travel back in time to Scotland or Wales by means of the talisman
in the title. We've ruled out Jane Yolen's "Tartan Magic"
series, Susan
Cooper's "Dark is Rising" sequence, and Nancy Bond's "A String in
the Harp."
Another customer is trying to locate a childhood favorite that she read
about 20 years ago. The title is possibly "House of Seven
Chimneys" but the
number of chimneys is in doubt. In the story a little girl visits a
haunted
mansion that is home to friendly ghosts. Whenever she visits she dances
with the ghosts and has a grand time. If anyone accompanies her the ghosts
do not materialize. The closest we've been able to come to that title is
"The House at Seven Chimneys" by Lee Wyndham, published in 1963.
Unfortunately we don't know what the book is about. This might be a red
herring. Anyone familiar with the plot or that particular title?
If these ring any bells, please respond to me privately & I'll sum up for
the list later.
Thanks in advance for the assist!

Belated thanks to Gayle Richardson, Anne Hall, L Kanaley, and Betsy Bybell
who knew that the two books my patron was looking for were:
_Tomfoolery, trickery and foolery with words_
_Kickle snifters and other fearsome creatures_
Both are by Alvin Schwartz. Thank you very much!
