Hello,
You have all been very helpful in the past and I thank
you again for
past
assistance and in advance to anyone who can help me
again.
We are just preparing to open up an internet computer in
our children's
department (preschool - grade 6). What I am looking
for is any
recommendations on a good internet site to set up as a
home page for
the children to begin their search and other valuable
sites that I can
bookmark for them. Let me know which you feel was
the most valuable
site.
I have already received some suggestions from my own
staff but I'm
interested in hearing from those of you who have internet
already in
your
children's department and what has worked for you.
Thanks again.

Greetings from soggy Michigan!
Thank you to everyone who responded to my query about
labelling the
reading level of easy readers. I received about 14 messages and it was
divided equally! 7 said absolutely grade the readers and 7 said I
would
be crazy to (or something on that order). After just getting notice of
one of my staff, I definately will not be grading all my easy readers
any time soon. I will have to think on this subject some more.
One
thing I feel I can do relatively easy is to make up some bibs on the
different levels. this should help many parents. Again thank you
to
everyone who responded!

In my summary I accidentally wrote one librarian said
that the Lemony Snicket series introduced kids to
Satanism. She actuallly wrote that the series
introduces the kids to a sadistic world. There is a
big difference!
Thanks again for all of the information. It sounds
like a pretty interesting series.

I was just wondering, what size library do you work
in.
I think I would lose my mind doing what you do as I
work for a small library and my responsibilities do
not allow the amount of time it would take for me to
have extra programs just for daycares. I have some
part-time help, but they are too busy running the desk
to help out with programs. It is really interesting
to me how different it is to work in a larger library
than in my small library where I am responsible for
all aspects of running the department. I am turning
daycares away, unfortunately. However, we are taking
our summer reading program to them this year through a
Roving Books program. We had some encumbered money
that I used to fund this. I don't know how I will
find the money next year!

Hi,
Not too long ago there was a discussion about library sleepovers and I think
I remember some people talking about release forms for the parents to sign?
If anyone has one they use, could you e-mail me about it? I've proposed
having a sleepover at our library and that was one of the concerns. Thanks,

Hi Kim,
We offer family story times in the Summer on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
and again at 10:30 a.m. we do not have families register for either program
everyone is welcome. We also offer Daycare and Summer School story

on Thursdays starting at 9:30 and again at 10:30. Registration is
required
for the Thursday program. We do have some groups who sign-up and then
do
not show up and they do not call. We ask the groups to please notify
us if
they can not attend. Groups are welcome to come every Thursday for a

Hi, All,
HELP! I was of course not paying attention when this question came up, not
knowing it would become my immediate concern: What do you do with teen
(young teen) volunteers in the summer? In past years, we've had more crafts
that they could help with for the younger kids' programs, but not this year.
We don't want to bore them to death, or spend too much time training
them--the perennial volunteer question.
The PUBYAC archives don't seem to be available.
Please reply to my personal mail, not the list.
Thanks!

Fellow Pubyaccers,
Have any of you read the "new Harry Potter" called
Artemis Fowl?
Supposedly, this book is going to be greater than Harry and will have a
movie coming out soon. I bought a copy for our library and I have been
reading it the last couple of days. For one thing, it didn't grab me
as
soon as the Harry books did and it has a very distracting code you have to
solve running on the bottom of every page. I plan to put this book in
with
the J books but I was curious as to where everyone else was planning to put
them. It is a good book but I think it may be over hyped.
Do any of you have any ideas or thoughts about this book?
