I have a stumper that I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with.

A patron is looking for a book of poetry.  The book is at least forty years
old and it includes a poem titled "Simple Simon for Adults" and another
poem -
that we don't know the title of, but the first line is:
"When George's grandmother was told that George had been as good as gold,
she
promised in the afternoon to bring him an immense balloon."

If you know what this book might be, please email me at lcole@ald.lib.co.us.

Thank you.

Hi-

We had a pet show this year as part of Children's Book Week, but we limited
it to pretend pets.  The program was in conjunction with our Friends group.
Kids brought their pets to us and helped us make a nametag which included
both the pet's name and the owner's name.  The pets stayed with us, and the
kids and parents went to lunch (provided by the Friends - free for kids, 50
cents per item for grownups) in another room while we decided on the awards
and attached ribbons to each nametag.  The ribbons were multicolored card
stock, in the shape of an award ribbon bookmark (cut with our Ellison
machine).  Each pet received an award - ranging from "longest whiskers" to
"most spots" and so on.  After lunch, we had a 1/2 hour pet story time, with
songs and stories about both real and pretend pet friends.  Then the kids
retrieved their pets, and everyone seemed happy to have had something
special about their pet recognized.  (The only unhappy child was a very
little girl who had come for the stories, but who didn't bring a pet.  She
had a hard time understanding why everyone else got to pick up a wonderful
pet at the end, and she didn't!) The kids participating ranged in age from
about 3-10, and while dogs, bears, and cats were the most common, we had
wolves, alligators, and hedgehogs, too!

Have any of you had any experience with a pet show or pet parade
type of program?  Sounds like fun, but could be disasterous if dogs
chase cats and cats eat fish etc.  Am working on submitting a
proposal, so need your input and advice ASAP directly to my
mailbox.  Thanks so much!

We had a pet "Show & Tell" last Feb. and we will be repeating it this =
year.  I required that all animals be caged or in a box of some kind.  We =
went around the room and talked about each pet in an exhibit sort of way.  =
It seemed to work well.  We had lots of exotic animals like a skink!

Hi all -

The weather is beginning to turn here, and I thought I'd make a display of
children's novels to read on a winter's night.  These might be any genre,

thought of, but would love to hear your ideas as well.  If you'll post
them to me, I'll compile them into a bibliography for all.

Thanks, and happy holidays!

A man was in today and would like to find the Todd Moran (not sure of
spelling of last name) mysteries that he enjoyed as a junior highschool
student in the late 1960s.  He describes them as mysteries with Todd as the
main character.  They were somewhat more advanced than the Hardy Boys books.
If anyone can help with the author or some titles from this series, he would
sure appreciate it.

Happy Holidays.
