Hello everyone,

Awhile back someone posted a "long" list of ice breaker type activities to
play with kids. It was fantastic and someone I have misplaced it.  If this
rings a bell with any of you, could someone please send it to me
amanda.spargo@library.ottawa.on.ca

Thanks,

You might want to check where a book is authored.  As a library worker in
Canada, I am sometimes appalled to discover books about Canada that are
written by someone in Florida (unless maybe they are snowbirds..!)Are there
any Canadian librarians out there who have recommendations for good quality
books about Canada?

Hello All,

Hoping you can help me with a stumper that was sent to me by our
director.  Here is the information she has given to me:

"Hi Sarah, I found out a little more about this request. The story was
included in a set of books called The Bookshelf, probably available in
the 1930"s. In the story, a little black kitten is orphaned and finds
refuge in a damaged pumpkin It is not a picture book, per se."

If this rings any bells for anyone, I'd truly appreciate it if you could
email me at soshea@tcpl.org.
Thanks in advance!

Sarah

Last fall we started a drop-in program called Playtime at the Library. =
It's aimed at children 5 years old & under. It runs from 10 - 11:30 a.m. =
once a week. The room is set up with some basic toys (blocks, tunnel, =
puppets, puzzles) purchased by our Friends group, along with book =
displays. We also offer some crackers & juice. Library staff members =
take turns going into the room, interacting with the children, and =
occasionally reading a book to small groups. So far we've had children =
as young as 11 months up to age 4. The response has been favorable.

Subject: Storytime help

Hi All,
There have been some great discussions on PUBYAC lately on storytimes =
and=20
they are so timely!  My co-programmer and I have been thinking about re-
vamping our preschool and toddler storytime in a way that accommodates =
our=20
community's needs.  Currently we have no baby storytimes (but constantly =

get asked about it).  We register our toddlers (age 2) but the preschool =

(ages 3-4) are drop in.  We are thinking of doing something where we=20
include ages 0-5, parents participate (or at least stay in the room!) =
and=20
is drop in, once a week (or more if needed).  We thought of calling it=20
just plain "Storytime" or "Family Storytime" (although I feel that's a=20
bit misleading). =20

I was wondering if anyone out there does or has done a program like this =

(all inclusive, ages 0-5) and what the pitfalls and pleasures are/were.  =

And also, what do/did you call it?

Thanks in advance!

all of us connected with libraries.  Diane Berry of ALA will speak, as
well as Helen Desfosses of the Albany Common Council, and Heidi
Siegfried of the area ACLU.
