Dear PUBYACkers,

It appears that a virus has somehow managed to piggyback onto the PUBYAC
subscriber list because I am getting huge volumes of mail about a virus
being detected.  It looks like the message went out early this morning,
which is very weird, since I wasn't logged in this morning.  I am looking
into it.

Whatever the case, do not open any attachments that come from
pyowner@pallasinc.com.  The subject is probably 'Hi."  I will never send you
attachments.

I would like to buy 2 or 3 board games for elementary school-aged
kids to play in the libary.  Do any of you have board games in your
children's departments?  If so, what games are especially popular
with the kids?  Thanks!

Dear Collective Brain,

I'm not sure if this has been answered before, but where do you folks =
keep (if you do have them) copies of the graphic novel titles, "Sandman" =
or a little more on the rough side, "Preacher."  Any input would be =
appreciated even if you don't think anyone should carry these titles.

Hello all,

Do any libraries out there have a customer feedback card that can be filled
out and left at the library? We are looking for more than a suggestion box -
we are thinking about a card that has specific questions and asks  about how
we are doing.

If you do, I'd love to hear about it - Please respond to me at
jrstokes@yahoo.com.

Many thanks in advance -

I bet a lot of it is location. B&N is almost always in a very popular part
of town where it's "cool" to hang out at. I know a few libraries that are
too far away and makes it rather inconvenient, unfortunately.

Thanks,
-william

Just so you all know... someone on this list was infected with that nasty
virus, and has sent it to pubyac.
As a friendly reminder, do *not* open files from people you don't know.
And, if you do know them, do not open files with a .pif .zip .exe .txt file
extension.

Hope you're all having a virus free day!

Good morning everyone,

I'm sure that there have been librarians who have done Hank the Cowdog
programs but I'm not sure I've ever seen a compilation about them.
Heather Stout from Lewiston City Library and I are combining our talents
for a workshop on exciting children's programs and would love to hear
about your successes, particularly for Hank. We'll give you credit, of
course, and I'll compile the responses and post them to the list.

Many thanks,

Greetings, O Collective Brain,
We're working on a project involving literacy kits for preschoolers
and their parents.  There are several kinds of kits available from
Childcraft, Lakeshore, and other companies, but we wanted to explore
putting our own together.  Has anyone else done this?  Also, I'm
interested in the container that holds them--bags? backpacks? Hanging
plastic bags? What works, or not, for you?
Thanks so much--I'll summarize whatever replies I get.

Just one more indication that the children's book award announcements didn't
go so smoothly this year....we write a column for our bi-weekly paper in
Middlebury, Vt, and for my last subject I mentioned several of this year's
winners.  Since Julia Alvarez is one of my patrons, I naturally mentioned
that she had won the Pura Belpre Award.
Today I received a note from her thanking me for the column.  Her husband
read it, noted the award, and mentioned it to her - she had no idea she had
won, as nobody had notified her.
Let's hope the next time around that the author isn't the last to know!

I had a lot of fun with a group decorating pieces of bread.  We spread the
bread with either marshmallow fluff or peanut butter.  Then you offer
different items such as raisins, bananas, grapes, etc. to "draw" a picture
on the bread.

You can also make a rabbit using different foods.  Use a bed of lettuce in a
bowl.
Canned pear half -- rabbit's face
American cheese -- ears
Raisins -- eyes
Maraschino Cherry -- nose
Toothpicks -- whiskers

I tried to get around allergies by offering many different foods (suck as
the marshmallow fluff vs. peanut butter on the bread).  When I did this, it
was a registered program, so we asked people to share any food allergy
information with us when they signed up.

Have fun!
