Dear PUBYACkers,

PUBYAC has been down for a week because Prairienet in Illinois was attacked
by hackers early Thursday Feb. 12.  All their servers had to be rebuilt, and
communications are still not quite up to speed.

While this message is going out to everyone, you need to understand that
Listproc is working v-e-r-y slowly.  For example, Listproc usually sends out
packets of 20 messages four times per second.  It is currently sending out
20 messages every 100 seconds.  Since PUBYAC has 3500 subscribers, it will
take over three hours of processing for just this message to reach everyone.
Prairienet has requested that we come back "lightly" until the delivery
speed problem is resolved.  Therefore, I am going to severely control the
posting of messages over the next few days so that we don't monopolize
Prairienet's resources.

It appears that all postings you sent this last week have been lost.  Some
of you e-mailed me to tell me your messages were rejected.  If you posted
anything after midnight on Feb. 12, you will need to resend it to
pubyac@prairienet.org , but do so with some constraint until we are truly
back up to speed.

I don't know if this incident will hasten our migration to the new MailMan
listprocessor software or not.

In the future, if you find that PUBYAC is absent for an extended period of
time, please check the PUBYAC webpage.  I try to keep that updated with any
breaking news that pertains to the entire subscriber list.  The PUBYAC
website is not on Prairienet's server, so it is unaffected by problems that
hit Prairienet.

I also sent out a message directly from pyowner@pallasinc.com on Thursday to
alert everyone to the problem, but many of your domains rejected the message
because of spam filters.  You might want to add pyowner@pallasinc.com as an
approved e-mail address.  I received lots of bounces for other reasons, and
so I am culling the subscriber list for what appear to be bad addresses.  So
if you get knocked off PUBYAC in the next few days, I apologize, and please
resubscribe.  Easy directions are on the PUBYAC Website.
