Hello again......

The staff person (and Potter-holic) who first spotted the tidbit about HP#5
being pushed back to Fall 2002 is, I'm sorry to say, away for a lengthy
holiday vacation baCK East....I'm so sorry that I won't be able to offer you
any specific HP site at this time due to her absence.

I only wrote this to PubYac after another patron came in and told us that
she had seen the SAME information printed in a recent issue (within the last
7 weeks) of "Entertainment Weekly".

Hopefully something "official" from any other source will be announced to us
sooner than I can confirm the info from our returning staff member. I didn't
mean to stress anyone out about this!

Have any of you had any experience with a pet show or pet parade
type of program?  Sounds like fun, but could be disasterous if dogs
chase cats and cats eat fish etc.  Am working on submitting a
proposal, so need your input and advice ASAP directly to my

I'm looking for fingerplays/rhymes/songs about jam or jelly for a jam story

I have a patron looking for a picture book about a

At some point the rabbit says "A pity we can't go

Hello All,

I do a lapsit/ Mother Goose Story Time for newborns to
age three.  We sit on a large colorful rug.  We use
songs, puppets and I use a special apron and tell
apron stories.

I can not carry a tune but the children and the
parents do not seem to care. I usually make sure that
there is music to go along with the songs that I sing.

I got a monkey puppet that we use every week and sing
"Five Little Monkeys Jumping On A Bed",
we have to do this every week because the children
loved it so much.

Good Luck

We wipe our headphones *mice* and keyboards with isopropyl alcohol wipes
at least every-other day. During this time of year we try to do it every
day.  I've only had one person not allow her child on the computer
because of a fear of lice and germs, she was upset that we didn't clean
them after each use! With the traffic our computer center gets that
would be a full time job in it's self!

I work for a new library district (we've only been in existence since
1990!)  We don't own a copy of the original Little Black Sambo.
We have chosen not to buy retrospective titles unless requested by
patrons -- this goes for all collections: adult, non-fiction, media.
We do add donations on a regular basis and a copy of this title has
never been donated.  We are a suburban library district serving over
20,000 patrons.  Our children's collection is approx. 20,000
volumes (that's a huge guess.)

Good Luck!

Here at our library we only have stuffed animals and puppets.  These are
kept in plastic yaffa blocks (milk crate type boxes) which are stacked up
like shelves and are in the children's area.  Our library is quite small
and the children's area is directly in front of the circulation desk. Since
the toys are not "checked out" we don't catalog them.

Thanks so much for all the various answers on my holiday party survey.
I got mostly what I expected to see.

The majority of the libraries responding have staff parties paid by the
staff
or staff brings in food and it's held after library hours.

The next largest response was staff pays for it and it's held during library
hours with staff taking turns.  The library is not closed during this time.
(I think this was mostly from libraries without branches.)

About tied for second place was an interesting concept I had never hear of
before which was a holiday party after library hours paid for by the Friends
of the Library
or a Staff Association.

Only 2 libraries that responded actually had a holiday party where the
library closed and paid the staff for the time, but the staff paid for the
party.

Thanks for the response, my curiousity about this was so much that I had to
ask.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

Hi,
We had our "party" yesterday...anyone who wants to
participate brings in something...and food is
available all day for lunch and dinner (with tons left
over for today!) Staff can visit at any time and
indulge. Staff who aren't scheduled to work also pop
in.
This is my second year here, and this is how it was
done last year also. I have heard that in the past
staff had gone out and paid their own way, but I think
is this now the preferred way.
   Happy holidays everyone...
