You all have such great storytime ideas.  I wondered if anyone had ideas =
for Milo's Hat Trick.  Any fingerplays or crafts to go along with this =
book?

Thanks in advance.

Hi There,

In my spare time, I volunteer with our local humane society. I'm afraid you
have more to worry about with a live pet show than just controlling the
movement of the animals.

Pets suffer greatly from any heat or lack of moving air, particularly the
youngest and oldest animals who are not able to regulate their temperature
as well as a healthy adult animal.

I would be fearful of animals left in vehicles or having to wait long
periods of time for judging, etc. on a summer day.

Crowds of excited children with their quick movements and high-pitched
voices can invite a dog or cat bite from any frightened animal.

Animals that have not had proper innoculations, particularly kittens and
puppies who have not yet finished their first vaccination series, are
extremely vulnerable to disease.
I don't know where your library is, but some areas also have high
infestations of fleas and ticks, which can also be transferable to other
pets and humans.

An open pet show invites an awful lot of unknowns and  liability.
We've done a successful animal care program under veterinary advice and
supervision that was a much more controlled situation.

A "Plush Pet Show" would still be great fun and far safer for children and
pets.

Thank you to the dozen people who responded with the correct spelling of the
character's name and the information that these mysteries were written by
Howard Pease in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s.  My patron is very happy to be able
to pass these along to his son.

Hello everyone,

I am currently weeding the junior and teen paperback sections at our
branch library. I am checking circulation statistics and I've found
several series that have been extremely popular in the past, but are not
really circulating any more. I was wondering if the Pubyac-ers could
tell me what they feel the new hot series are for the teen & junior
fiction audiences. Please reply to me and I will compile a list if there
is interest.

Thank you!

Hello all,
After a stressful December, I am thinking that the staff could use some
reminders about dealing positively with students who are less than tactful
about making requests. Some of the patrons are shy, others have no idea of
appropriate methods of asking questions.   Does anyone have any good ideas
for dealing with this issue in a staff meeting setting?
Thanks,

Does anyone recognize this story? ~
A patron asked today about a chapter book that she read about 22 years ago.
Set in the latter part of the 1800s, a young girl and her family live in
Pierre, South Dakota and are trying to get the powers that be to make Pierre
the capitol of the state. That's all she told me about the book. I couldn't
find anything in our OPAC that seemed to be a match and John Gillespie's
"Best Books for Children" did not describe a book like this. Thanks for any
help you can give me.

Thanks to everyone who answered my stumper about the
bear and rabbit who tried to hibernate together.  The
title is "A Starlit Somersault Downhill" by Nancy
Willard.  We don't own it but are getting it on
interlibrary loan.  Our patron is very excited.  This
family just moved to our town and now are very
impressed with our library resources!  Thanks again
for all your help.

Help!

Several years ago I read a wonderful book about Viet Nam and the VietNam
Conflict in which the main character is traveling back to Nam although it
is a dangerous thing to do.  The character is Vietnamese wth emotional ties
to an American.  The story consists of the current travel situation
emotionally interspersed with flashbacks to the protagonist's experience
growing up in Vietnam around the border area between North and South.

I think it was a novel, but read like a true story, but I could be wrong.
